My Movie Review on Despicable Me · 3:37pm Jan 29th, 2020

Yo, what’s up, my friends?

This is your friendly film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, for my 109th film review, I’m gonna be analyzing “Despicable Me”.

Here’s the summary of it:

Gru is a super-villain who deeply desires to become the best villain ever, and he plans on doing so by stealing the moon. All he needs is a shrink ray in order to have the moon in his hands, and a rocket to get into space.

However, when a competitor of Gru’s named Vector steals the shrink ray from him, Gru’s plans are hindered and he has to somehow get it back. He later discovers that Vector will only allow 3 people to come into his house: Margo, Agnes, and Edith. Three girls who are orphans and often sell cookies. So, in another attempt to get the shrink ray back, Gru adopts the girls.

Will Gru’s plans to steal the moon ever move forward? Or not?

What’s more, is stealing the moon and being a villain really what Gru wants? Or could it be something else entirely?

I really must say, Illumination definitely knew how to make their debut right.

The direction by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, the story by Sergio Pablos, and the screenplay by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, were extremely well-played. Every joke in the film was deeply hilarious and was executed perfectly, and the filmmakers gave a smart combination of classic and modern humor peppered with a sense of thought and innocence. The growing bond between that of Gru and the girls was the element that I believed gave this film a soul, as it was emotional, heartwarming, everything! The relationship between orphaned children and their adoptive parents was something that I found to be very unique and original for an animated film.

The animation was extraordinary too. If the goal was to make it as gorgeous, detailed, and accomplished as possible without using too much money, Illumination did a great job. The best part about it was that it showcased a sense of hardwork, passion, and creativity.

The music and songs that were made by Pharrell Williams and Hector Pereria were quite a powerhouse as well. I love how they brought such a brilliant emotional resonance to it all. They also incorporated a sense of something fresh that helped it stand apart from the styles of others. The addition of classic songs, such as "Sweet Home Alabama", "Boogie Fever", and "You Should Be Dancing" made everything all-the-more fun. Similar to "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit", I likewise couldn't help but note the involvement of Hans Zimmer as musical producer, as he appeared to have aided Williams and Pereria's score be enhanced on a deeper level.

Finally, the voice acting, casting, characters, and character development were marvelous! It was particularly amazing how the most unusual of casting choices turned out to be perfect for the characters, the performers fitting them to a tee.

Steve Carrell and Miranda Cosgrove were undoubtedly fitting for the parts of Gru and Margo, and their performances were outstanding! Along with that, their characters, and Edith and Agnes, had remarkable character development. Jason Segel, might I add, was quite the scene-stealer as Vector.

In conclusion, "Despicable Me" is a definite jewel of animation and comedy, and it greatly showcases everyone on board at their creative best.

So, I rate "Despicable Me" five out of five stars.

Though Despicable Me was a good movie, it also unleashed a yellow fever which the world has not yet been able to cure. Minions are officially the most cringey thing when it now comes to humor and animation, which everyone in the animation industry is now trying to copy.

One of my most favorite movies in history of cinema!

True, though the Despicible Me sequels weren't that bad

This was the one that truly started it all! This is the only one in the series i have seen, but i am quite comfortable with just this.
