Here are a few of my favourite anime series. Be sure to check them out if you haven't already.
Death Note
Probably the best story in terms of strategy and endless mind games. The sheer complexity of the plot is nothing short of perfect, and the characters are very entertaining. The whole concept is very original.
Fate/Zero
One of the few shows I can safely call a masterpiece. While the plot is a little slow in the beginning, the philosophical extrapolations and deep characterization are mind-blowing. Seriously, the last two episodes alone left me speechless. This entire anime is probably one of the biggest inspirations for my current fic, "Apropos of the Sinners."
Mob Psycho 100
While this is a very fun and entertaining story, the best part about it was the message and heart. I just really dug the protagonist's struggle to improve himself through his own efforts rather than judging the world through a cushy and impersonal lens, which is what so many people do these days. Definitely not perfect, but still a must watch.
Vinland Saga
The other masterpiece on my list of favourites. Vinland Saga has the best character writing out of any other anime I've watched. Every single character is interesting and complex, and all the elements of what makes a good story—setting, themes, dialogue, etc—flow seamlessly together. I've read the manga; believe me, things only get better.
