2019 marks the 40 year anniversary of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. While one of the more divisive films among the Trek fanbase, I personally love it. Watching this movie on my family's old VHS player at the tender age of three years old is one of the defining moments of my life, I feel. It was like I had this awakening of just how big and mysterious the Universe really is...and how much the human mind can create with our imaginations. The beautiful starship Enterprise, the alien machine-entity V'Ger, Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful musical score...I'll never forget the sheer awe I felt watching this movie as a little kid.
So when Hallmark announced that they were making a Christmas ornament of the USS Enterprise herself, I just had to get her for our family's Christmas tree this year.
Isn't she beautiful? I firmly believe that Enterprise, especially in her upgraded refit as seen in the movies, is one of–no, the–best starship designs to ever grace the screen. There's just something so perfect about the design...I almost can't put it into words.
Man. Now I'm getting nostalgic for the movie again. Excuse me while I feast my eyes on the six-minute reveal scene. And it's a six minutes that are always well spent in my book.
*sniff* Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. And even the way it's filmed, the prop is so good...it looks like she's actually there. Like I could reach through the screen and touch my hand upon the hull...
When will we be able to do this? When will we get to boldly go?...
Here's a little fun fact about me: this movie was a partial part of my first step in accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. That's a long story too.
