Trying new things, polishing old ones

During the time I was working from home (shortly after the start of quarantine), I discovered the sword-and-sorcery genre. After happening upon audio readings of stories by Robert E. Howard on YouTube, I began immersing myself in the adventures of Solomon Kane and Conan of Cimmeria. Having played Dungeons & Dragons in high school (and still keeping up with every edition of the game since),

Why Diamond Tiara does not attend Crystal Prep Academy

(Aside from the fact that CPA was not introduced until the third movie)

    I recently formulated an explanation:

The Filthy Rich of the Equestria Girls universe was once romantically involved with Abacus Cinch. Although their individual ambitions ultimately led them to drift apart, they remain friends.

    Shadow Five Headcanons

Just recording these thoughts before I call it a night... thought I’d share these for kicks and giggles:

    Sunny Flare

    • Physically the second-smallest of the Shadow Five.
    • Principal Cinch’s niece.
    • A bit of a germaphobe.
    • For some reason, I imagine her being of Italian descent (I have her cheer "bravissima!" in one story).

    Back to the Daily Grind

    Hello everyone!

These last couple of weeks have been quite busy, but productive. Last month, after working from home for nearly six months, I went back to work onsite at my day job. It was a bit of an adjustment going back to a commuting schedule, but it does feel good to get out of the house, even just as part of a daily grind (with all precautions taken of course).

Story Ideas · 5:29am Dec 8th, 2019

A small part of me still cannot believe that FiM officially ended two months ago, or that Equestria Girls has effectively ended with Holidays Unwrapped (and no official word of any further EqG material to come). Even with RL hullabaloo at an all-time high, I still strive to create every chance I get. Lately, my focus has seesawed back to visual art and some non-MLP personal projects.

From time to time, however, I still contemplate telling some new EqG tales…

  • Companion stories to my horror tale The Legacy Will Endure told from Indigo Zap’s and Sugarcoat’s points of view. Interesting (and scary) as it might be to see how they deal with their own symptoms, I’m not sure what else from the original story could be further explored or expanded upon.
  • A slapstick comedy in the vein of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies starring Indigo Zap and Lemon Zest. It would definitely be a challenge to narrate a fight scene like this one from the 1977 movie Crime Busters.
  • A superhero one-shot with the Rainbooms thwarting a gang of baddies trashing a museum.

And of course, those belly dance stories… :raritystarry:

  • I am leaning heavily toward doing a story with Starlight Glimmer visiting the human world and giving belly dance a try. If it fully unveils itself to me, you can bet I’ll post it here!
  • I have been tempted to write a story taking place at a Renaissance Faire - the one place after a Mediterranean Restaurant where you are most likely to see a belly dancer perform. In fact, an early draft of Parting the Veil had Twilight Sparkle joining Dean Cadance for a demo performance at a Ren Faire. In that scenario, Twilight, while wandering the Faire before the demo, would have run into Sunny Flare, Sour Sweet and Sugarcoat, and then worry about them finding out about her and Cadance’s new hobby. One key scene would have involved the Shadowbolts noticing Twilight’s improved agility and balance during a fencing lesson. I’m sure most of you could guess how the story would have ended.
  • I have also considered a tale wherein Twilight fusses over Timber Spruce finding out about her hobby, but it would be little more than a rehash of A Sparkly Surprise Performance. Plus, given the controversial nature of characters like Timber Spruce and Flash Sentry, this idea is one better left on the shelf. Then again, it’s possible that Chiffon Veil might arrange for her class to go on a retreat at Camp Everfree…

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season. Stay safe out there!

These sound like good ideas to me. I'm especially intrigued by the idea of more Lemon and Indigo comedy, and also the superhero one-shot. (I'm a wimp when it comes to horror, so while I'd probably check out a sequel to The Legacy Will Endure... XD)

And of course, more belly-dancing stories are always nice.

Stay safe, and best wishes for the holidays.

It is a challenge to decide which way to go in the post production era. I'm glad that you've got some ideas. There were any number of lose threads in MLP:FIM and MLP:EG canon that one can pursue. But finding ones that work is not easy. Good luck with whatever you choose.
