Trying new things, polishing old ones

During the time I was working from home (shortly after the start of quarantine), I discovered the sword-and-sorcery genre. After happening upon audio readings of stories by Robert E. Howard on YouTube, I began immersing myself in the adventures of Solomon Kane and Conan of Cimmeria. Having played Dungeons & Dragons in high school (and still keeping up with every edition of the game since),

Why Diamond Tiara does not attend Crystal Prep Academy

(Aside from the fact that CPA was not introduced until the third movie)

    I recently formulated an explanation:

The Filthy Rich of the Equestria Girls universe was once romantically involved with Abacus Cinch. Although their individual ambitions ultimately led them to drift apart, they remain friends.

    Shadow Five Headcanons

Just recording these thoughts before I call it a night... thought I’d share these for kicks and giggles:

    Sunny Flare

    • Physically the second-smallest of the Shadow Five.
    • Principal Cinch’s niece.
    • A bit of a germaphobe.
    • For some reason, I imagine her being of Italian descent (I have her cheer "bravissima!" in one story).

    Back to the Daily Grind

    Hello everyone!

These last couple of weeks have been quite busy, but productive. Last month, after working from home for nearly six months, I went back to work onsite at my day job. It was a bit of an adjustment going back to a commuting schedule, but it does feel good to get out of the house, even just as part of a daily grind (with all precautions taken of course).

After completing my latest tale, The Invisible Zest, I shifted my focus back to visual art once more, doing Inktober again this year. This time around, I'm revisiting the characters and franchises that have had the biggest influence on me as a creator. If you are a fan of old school anime, comics, western animation, or videogames, you might get a kick out of some of the pieces:

As always, many story ideas continue to churn in my head. Among them...

  • A film noir-style tale (complete with first-person narration) featuring Sugarcoat once again in a sleuthing role. This scenario could take place within Crystal Prep Academy in the vein of Fillmore! or in an alternate 1940's universe (with Sugarcoat donning the requisite trenchcoat and fedora). In either version, I envision Sunny Flare and Sour Sweet acting as a good cop/bad cop duo.
  • Another tale featuring Lemon Zest and Indigo Zap wherein Lemon experiences Walter Mitty-esque daydreams that cast her, Indigo, and others in various roles. Blame this one on me re-watching Garfield's Feline Fantasies.
  • As a fan of the Batman: Arkham series, I have been wanting to do a story with the Shadow Five as full-fledged badass normals fighting back when villains take over Crystal Prep Academy in a Die Hard-style scenario. This one would definitely merit a PG-13 rating for the violence. If you've played Arkham Knight, you'll know exactly what I'm getting at. Three words: Dual Team Takedowns!

Now, if I can just avoid getting distracted playing Arkham Knight and King of Fighters All-Star...

I hope that everyone continues to be safe and healthy out there!

More as the Wheel turns.

Oh shit, here we go again. (i do not Force).

Oh damn, those all sound like great ideas. I might be most intrigued by the Lemon Zest-as-Walter Mitty idea, plus the Arkham-influenced Die Hard tale for the Shadowbolts. :pinkiehappy:

Siempre me ha gustado escribir Sugarcoat como detective. Cuando empecé a escribir, nunca imaginé que usaría Lemon y Indigo tanto como yo. Hacen un equipo tan bueno.

I’ve always liked writing Sugarcoat as a detective. When I began writing, I never imagined I would use Lemon and Indigo as much as I have. They make such a good team.

I am heavily inclined toward the Walter Mitty tale. I'll see it reveals itself to me.

There's something about the notion of Sunny Flare and company sneaking through the Academy air vents and floor grates, and beating up mooks while still in their uniforms that I find entertaining.
