Hazbin Hotel and some introspection · 3:45pm Nov 25th, 2019
To those who haven't seen it yet, Hazbin Hotel is an indie-animation project created by VivziPop that's become rather popular. If you haven't checked it out, I'd recommend doing so, if you like R-rated dark-comedy musicals with very creative visual designs. Seriously, its amazing. Go check it out.
That said, there's been a bit of a… problem in the Hazbin fanbase of late, stemming from shipping wars between the Charlie x Vaggie (canon) and Charlie x Alastor (non-canon) pairings. At first, I was ready to jump right on board in the CxV camp, but then I realized something: one of my main arguments was that CxA wasn't canon… which is exactly the argument that I see when people deride my favorite ship Scitwi x Sunset. And it was in that moment that I realized that if I started using that argument, I'd be a hypocrite.
And that got me thinking.
Shouldn't shipping be about fun? Shouldn't we just be enjoying ourselves? I mean, we're talking about the relationships of fantasy characters who we think make an interesting romantic pairings. So what if our favorite pairs aren't canonically real in show. That doesn't change that we can enjoy them in our own fan-realities.
So, I'm trying to take a different approach to the whole shipping thing: live and let live. I don't like a pairing, that's cool. I'll just enjoy what I enjoy, and let others do the same.
Just something to think about, yes?
The Voice in the Water
