A little birthday gift, from me to you. · 5:50pm Nov 17th, 2019

Hey there!

As it so happens, today is my birthday.

And so, in a subversion of the usual tradition, I figured I'd give a gift to you all.

The thing is, when it comes to writing, I tend to be VERY sporadic. I'll have one idea, work on that for a bit, then get a second idea and work on that for a bit, and then I'll want to work on the first idea again, and then I’ll get a THIRD idea, and it just kinda spirals from there.

As it stands, I currently have about a dozen stories I've written more than a couple sentences of. Of those stories, I've selected the five closest to completion to show to you guys. Some are closer to being finished than others, but I've typed at least 1000 words of each.

So, without further ado, here's a preview of my coming attractions:

Why Me? Why Not.

(Author's Note: The story is told in the first person from the perspective of Gallus.)

...I'm paraphrasing, obviously. But yeah, that was the basic gist of it. And then the next thing I knew, me and Silverstream were a thing. Funny how that works out, isn't it? The others gave me such a hard time about it, too—Sandy and Yona were especially bad about it. I guess I kinda deserved it though, what with how many times I've joked about how lovey-dovey those two can be. Trust me, it gets really bad sometimes. But I could live with it, so whatever.

So, anyway, it's been about half a week or so after that whole thing at the dance, and I'm getting ready for me and Silver's first real date together. Nothing too fancy, obviously; we're just going to run down to the Ponyville Malt Shop, sit down, get something to eat, talk a little... Y'know, that sort of thing.

And before you ask, yes, there are in fact places to hang out in downtown Ponyville that aren't named Sugarcube Corner.

Don't Look Back In Anger

Soon enough, a green plume of smoke rushed towards her and, accompanied by a flash of light and a loud poof, reformed into a rolled-up scroll. Before the newly-arrived scroll could fall to the floor, the mare cast a levitation spell on it, encasing the sheet of paper in a glistening lavender aura. She brought the scroll up to her face and, again with the use of her magic, unrolled it. Her pupils slowy drifted from left to right, then back to the left again, over and over as she read the scroll's contents.

Hey there, Twilight!

Today’s the big day! Well, you probably already knew that, but I think it does deserve repeating.

500 years, huh? It feels so weird, knowing it's been that long since the whole Nightmare Moon thing. And to think that was just the beginning! Between Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra... If I'm being honest with myself, some of that stuff still feels like it happened yesterday, you know what I mean? Guess Celestia had a point after all—the time really has flown by.

Anyway...

The World Still Spins Around

(Author's Note: Alternate Universe where Spike stays in Ponyville post-finale, amongst other things.)

That was when Rarity had stepped in. Noticing how upset Spike had been ever since Twilight had left for Canterlot, she'd offered him a job at Carousel Boutique—one that offered a room for him to stay in, plus an actual salary.

That was the thing about Rarity. For all her faults, for all her occasional lapses in judgement, come closing time she could still perfectly demonstrate why she'd been chosen as the Element of Generosity all those years ago.

Heck, maybe that was why Spike's crush on her had lasted as long as it had. Her struggles to balance her moral obligations with her desire for fame and recognition seemed all-too-familiar when he compared them to his own struggles against his innate draconic greed. That connection had been something for the young dragon to cling to—or, at least, something worth more than "she looks pretty."

Of course, the crush hadn't lasted. As time marched on and Spike's temporary stay at the Boutique became a permanent stay, he found that he still loved her... just not in a romantic way. Heck, he hadn't even felt anything towards Sweetie Belle, in spite of Rarity's initial insistence that they might've made a cute couple.

In a way, Rarity and Sweetie Belle had become almost like sisters to him now. They were family. Just like Twilight was.

Agree to Disagree

"Spike, please answer my question. Why are you dropping all of your comics on the floor?"

".What does it matter to you?"

"Spike, you love the Power Ponies comics. I can’t help but be a little concerned when I see you dumping them all on the ground like that."

Having seen Twilight’s point, Spike fidgeted for a few more seconds, desperately trying to fight off the fact he couldn’t ignore the issue. But, after a little while longer, he finally gave in.

"What does it look like I’m doing, Twilight?" he asked, rhetorically. "I'm getting rid of them!"

"All of them?"

"Yes!"

"But why?"

Nowhere and Back Again

(Author's Note: Alternate Universe where Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy were somehow reformed at the end of "The Ending of the End")

She hadn’t thought to bring the letter with her. Not that she really needed it, though. She’d read it so many times, and spent so long pondering whether or not she’d heed its call, that, if she so desired, the words could repeat themselves over and over in her mind, looping around and around like a broken record.

Dear Mother Chrysalis,

I'd like to

I'm glad that

I

It's me, Thorax. I know you probably still hate my guts, and I perfectly understand if you just want to ignore this and be done with all of us. But at the same time, we really didn't get a chance to talk back after the battle when you changed after everything happened.

So, if you're interested, would you like to come visit the changeling kingdom again? There are a lot of things I think we'd like to say to each other.

-Thorax

P.S. Sorry about all the crossed-out stuff. I had a hard time finding the right words to say.
:)

So, what did you think of them? Which story are you most interested in reading? Feel free to let me know in the comments! I'm still kinda on the fence regarding which one I'm going to finish and publish first, so any feedback you guys have would be greatly appreciated. With luck, at least one of them will be in the New column by the end of the month.

I hope I'll see you then!

Definitely most interested in the first one, because romance. Unless I've completely missed the gist of course, haha. Wouldn't be the first time. At all. Anyway, the first one regardless, because it sounded the most interesting and also had on-point characterisation.

And romance. Probably. Hopefully. :twilightblush:

Also go you! Look at all that productivity! I've got, like, ideas all over the shop and very little to actually show for it.

These look dope. I say work on your favourite.

Happiest of birthdays to the most ancient of politzanians!
