Some will say the worst part of writing is the beginning. Others the end. Others the middle, and middles are in fact massive bastards. A middle needs to bridge the beginning and the end without getting off-topic or lost in the weeds, and it's hard.
But even so the middle isn't the worst part for me. The worst part is the bit in between projects.
I cleaned out my pony fic folder, getting rid of cryptically title folders with no actual content and things that were just bad ideas, and I still have twenty-five incomplete stories. Twenty-five! Ranging from dumb clops to epics like my Yak War novel and my erotic epic Crystal Balls.
I also have three original novels; two in revisions and one incomplete. I'm a bit pessimistic about my original ficiton's prospects because my influences are mostly thirty to fourty years out of date. I really want to be like Beagle and Le Guin, and everybody likes litRPGs and Game of Thrones these days. But Bronies are influenced by trippy 80s fantasy too, so that's great. I really like you guys!
So. Yeah. I need to just pick one. But it's hard! A lot of these stories are incomplete because they weren't quite working!
Okay; I wanna get back to writing, so I'm gonna go pick something.
That's the best way; just pick one project and get going on it. It's always better to be moving forward than to just keep wondering.
I'd definitely prefer more trippy fantasy over Games of Thrones myself!

Honestly probably a lot of people would. That's one of the reasons for the popularity of the ponies, I think.

Yeah, my favorite fantasy is usually a mix between weird and gritty, such as Black Company, Malazan, Elric, Conan, etc. Too 'realistic' and I'd rather just read historical fiction.

I've read a lot of Moorecock, and some Conan stories. I should read the others at some point. So many stories. Also, so much fanfic.

I think I'm getting somewhere on one. Now that I'm an outliner, I can write/edit blurbs, synopsises and outlines until something starts working. Makes life easier.
