The Future of the Rhythm · 9:29am Nov 8th, 2019
For those of you who've been patiently waiting for the next arc of Rhythm of the Heat, I have some good news and bad news.
The bad news is that RotH as is died as of the end of Act I - big surprise, eh?
The good news is that Republican Libertarian Brony and I seem to have figured out our problem(s) with the story. Now that my house move is nearing an end, we're looking at a reboot, one that should avoid the pitfalls that prematurely ended the old version. Most notably, we lost touch with the rhythm of our own story and tried to make it into a epic, rather than a story of personal exploration.
Aside from being a status report, I also wanted to ask a question. Would you folks like us to leave a link to the compiled original version of this story in the description if/ when we post the reboot?
Yes, I would like for the original story to be linked. As long as you don't mind others using it as a comparison to the reboot.
If you're willing to help future writers, you could include commentary as to where it went wrong the first time and what step you took to improve the original.
Many, myself included, have started a story, but either failed to have an end goal for the story and it rambles on into obscurity, or try to stuff to much into a story that it gets lost in its own fog.

The biggest piece of advice I can personally give, is that while an outline is good to have, it's rarely enough for a story. When you're sitting down planning, it's far more important to figure out what the story is, before you decide what happens. What is your story's rhythm, if you will. So, when I'm working on a project - a writing piece planned to be of novel length - I like to make a separate google-doc that has a mission statement, an outline, and little primers on who the major characters are, etc.
The next biggest thing is never stop writing, even if your projects stall. Never throw away your work, no matter how much you hate it or think it's trash. Even if it takes you a year or two to come back around to a project, it'll still be there, waiting for YOU, because a good story will outlive its author.

Sound advice for all to hear. An outline is my best friend, but mostly to ensure I don't miss key points. Modifying the outline over the course of the story will keep you on track.
Xolani would like that link very much
I would very much love to see an outline of what you had originally intended when the reboot is posted. I very much loved the story you were producing along with the characters and would be very interested in seeing where the story would have taken them.

By in large, the reboot is going to be almost identical up until the point the Kuchomwa are introduced. The largest differences are going to be the removal of Burnished Bronze, and the quest to find out what happened to her and her friends. From there, we've figured out how to get the story back on track, without a war and without wallowing around in Aura for the next half-million words. While we love the little colony, our plans reside inland.

Ah, so in the reboot will Abidemi play the role of the “villain” like in the previous version of the story?
Btw how is the reboot coming along?

I have a pair of images that answer these questions pretty well, IMO. Your second question first...
