Interview with Anonpencil

"Alright, now tell me, my dear friend, what inspired your username?” It’s not as interesting as you might think. I used to hang out over on a drawthread on /mlp/ and I decided one day I was going to take a crack at sketching out, rather badly, some of the pony requests on there. I just did little like 10 minute sketches in pencil, and they asked me to put a name on them so I could be better identified. So I said I was just an anonymous pencil, anonpencil. The name stuck.

“What drew you into Mlp?” I liked the original MLP a lot. It was always a secret shocking fact about me when people found out how much I loved it, how many toys I had, how much I knew about it. Otherwise, I barely had a feminine bone in my body. When the new one came out, I was… resistant. I didn’t want a stupid trendy new cartoon replacing my favorite old weird show! But my boyfriend at the time told me to just get drunk and watch one episode, because he said Faust had done a pretty good job with it! So I did, and I was immediately hooked. We started playing a drinking game, where you drink every time they say “pony,” and that was always a dangerously good time, heh.

"Favorite pony and why?" Berry Punch.

“Favorite episode and why?” Probably Bridal Gossip. It was the first one I watched, and it got me to watch the rest of the show. Besides there are… sooooo many unintentionally wrong things in that episode. It makes a perfect drinking game ep, play along with your friends! Drink all the drinks!

“What inspires you to write?” I can’t not write. Writing is something that fuels me, even the things I write that never see the light of day. I don’t write for head pats or because it gives me validation. I write because I know I’m good at it, and it makes me feel like I’m doing what I was meant to do. The more I write, the more I grow and improve. The more I manage to say what’s in my head and heart. On fimfic, I just write because I like making people laugh and cringe and be angry. So, whatever horrifying or strange idea pops into my head, I usually go with that.

“Give us the background of the author! Tell us all about you. Well in a short summary. Hmmmmmm that’s a vague question! So, a summary of me… I’m anonpencil, drinker of wine, eater of cheese, and screamer of hockey games. I was brought up wealthy, and I love my family, but hooooo boy are they super frighteningly normal. I’m definitely the “novelty” of my fam. I love going to art museums as well as burlesque shows, and I do lewd art poorly but write shitposts well. I like most alcoholic drinks, and have a list of health problems so long it’ll make your neck hurt to look at it. I’m also poly, and have some wonderful long term life partners in my life, two of whom are on the site! I have a deep love of candy and cheese that are strong enough to drive me to murder should the need arise. I cook, I garden, and I fear going outside like a weirdo. And, most of all, I swear. A lot.

“With Mlp coming to an end, tell us one thing you have learned from your experiences, and how it has helped you to grow? Well, MLP has introduced me to two very important people in my life as romantic partners, and it’s given me a family of others. The Barcast is a podcast I’m on, and those guys aren’t just my friends and collaborators, they’re legitimately my online family. I would cut a bitch for any one of those losers, and they know it. It’s one of those situations where I can platonically say “I love you” to any one of them and know that they’ll say it back. We watch out for each other. No matter what happens with the show or our Podcast, I don’t see losing any of those guys from my life in the future.

“Is there anything else you'd like to say? When life gives you lemons, make grape juice. Then, sit back and watch the world try to figure out how the fuck you did it.
