I should start tagging the stories in question here. Why wasn't I doing that before?
Anyway, here's today's story:
Yup. Fifth story in and we're already on a sidestory. Though, that isn't bad, per say. Just an observation.
Anyway, without further ado, let's jump right into tearing this thing apart! (Or maybe you do want more ado?)
Starting off, we're dumped into the trashed wasteland of the former Crystal Empire. Sombra is gone and crammed away in a big ol' metal soda can in the sky, so he doesn't have the ability to control the Crystal Ponies anymore. Yay!
Also, I apparently had no idea that [hr] was a thing. This is from the first chapter, and is something similar to stuff that appeared in a lot of my early stories:

One of the most notable things is that outside of the garbage fire that was "Of All Things...", this was also one of my earliest experience with first-person storytelling. The story is also the first OC-centric story I ever wrote as well, focusing on "Rusty Gears" and "Lunar Jewel" on their travels.
And outside of What If and Spacebound Equestria, this is one of the few early stories that I wrote that I still have a good opinion on.
Also, yeah, I ended up reusing those characters after the sequel to Spacebound Equestria died in a hole.
I accidentally deleted this entire chapter about an hour or two before this was published, so I tried my best to remember the scenes and cobble together the best that I could come up with, but either way, I like how it turned out.
Ah yes, the days when I forgot when saving was a thing and just wrote everything in one go without batting an eye.
It's been about half a week now since we set up camp.

My train of thought was quickly cut off by the annoyingly wet feeling on my mane. Sheesh, just a few minutes of relaxation and the water injector pipe bursts. I promptly took out my now-soggy saddlebag to retrieve some scrap metal. Due to my skill with metal and various complex mechanisms, not only did I fix the leak in the water injector, but I practically retrofit the entire piping with a stronger support pipe with an automated water-backup system in case of an overflow. I really underestimate my own skills sometimes.
We get it, Rusty, you're smart.
I'm really not putting much effort into these reviews, am I? Eh. Not like they're formal reviews anyway, and it's all just self-roasting. Maybe I'll roast a few of y'all's stories in the future. 
Whatever, let's just keep going.
All I know is this: Canterlot is no more.

Haha, I just watched my screen yellow from night mode turning on. Neat.
Heading into the next chapter, I'm pretty sure that I was originally aiming for a sorta shattered steampunk-esque setting. I remember that a decent amount of the story revolves around a train that Rusty restores, and much of the landscape in the the story is scarred by the war against Sombra from one of Starlight Glimmer's alternate timelines.
Also, kinda working on homework at the same time as this, so I'm not all that focused.
Oh heck. It's been three hours since I started this blog and never finished because I got distracted researching the 74181 chip and then realizing it was in one of the textbooks I had laying around all along.
Ummmmmmmm...
To sum things up, things get a little hectic 'cause now everypony is moving to Canterlot iirc, some scientist pones were abandoned too (also iirc) and the story ends with the ship from Spacebound Equestria returning.
Hecc.
But all in all, I actually don't really have much that I feel like roasting in this story. I do remember enjoying writing this back when it was being actively worked on.
