Thoughts on "A Trivial Pursuit" · 9:10pm Aug 22nd, 2019
Well, I enjoy trivia as much as the next nerd, but this is ridiculous.
So... many... faces...
Honestly, the whole time I just wanted to jump in there and play the game, even though it probably contained obscure facts about Equestria that were never revealed on the show (though if I had heard those facts, I'd probably scream in frustration because "that's interesting, why wasn't this ever revealed on the show", or "that is so freakin' stupid, I miss not knowing that"). Although while I like playing trivia games, Twilight was taking it way too seriously. Geez, even when I'm frustrated at my answer record, the most I do is snap at someone out of impatience. I'd never try sabotaging other people with obscure rules of the game (granted, I wouldn't even know the obscure rules, but still).
I was irritated with Pinkie at first and worried that she would be written as dumb in the episode, but then over the course of the episode I couldn't help but feel sorry for her, especially when it came to the cupcake question that she totally would have nailed, and especially when she was tricked into being disqualified.
Also, I find it funny that the universe apparently ships Maudbriar to pair them up three times in a row.
Well, I guess those are my thoughts. Wild episode with wild faces and mental breakdowns and trivia madness, which kept me entertained despite Twi's questionable behavior.
My theory is that Granny set the whole thing up as an elaborate charade to pair off the young people in town. Maud and Mudbriar end up on the same team, Applejack and some unknown but presumably unobjectionable earth pony stallion, Sunburst and Starlight in previous weeks...
Granny is the one pulling the names out and announcing the pairs, and she's got hoof dexterity. And it seems like she comes up with answer categories that one pony is guaranteed to do well at and impress their partner. I think the whole thing is a sneaky matchmaking scheme of Granny's.
