My tenth story! · 8:49pm Jun 30th, 2019
TFW you're working on five stories, and before publishing a single word of any of them, you end up writing a sixth instead.
I, too, couldn't sleep, and started thinking about ponies that might suffer from insomnia and why, and the entire plot of the story (such as it is) came to me with such insistence that I had to get up and write it.
Spike is awesome, and while he'll always be Twilight's little brother, he takes great pride in his status as Number One Assistant, and keeping her safe, sane and well-rested is his favourite and most important job.
I liked the title 'Familiar' because it works on so many levels: the Twily, go to bed! situation is familiar to both of them as it endlessly repeats throughout their lives; the two of them are so familiar with each other by now that they're operating on a level of intuitive mutual trust and understanding far beyond any 'sister' or 'mentor' or 'boss' or 'friend' label could adequately convey; the idea of a familiar in folklore and magic, of course, especially since Twilight is so advanced in the latter subject; and the fact that they are, as Father Knows Beast and Sparkle's Seven made clear, family.
Anyway, I hope you like it!
