Thoughts on “Rainbow Roadtrip” · 3:58am Jun 30th, 2019
So, I saw “Rainbow Roadtrip,” and I absolutely loved it. Granted, it was very uncomplicated and predictable, but I personality think that both those characteristics ended up working in the special’s favor. Because the show staff didn’t overthink the plot, each of the characters new and old got a chance to shine. The special got me to care about every character that showed up regardless of how much screen time that a character had.
I do have a few little nitpicks about the special though. The biggest one is that music number at the end wasn’t very memorable. I mean, it served its purpose of closing out the special, but that was just about it. The song didn’t really move me, but then again, it probably didn’t need to. I was already moved by everything else that happened in the special.
My other nitpick is the introduction of what Twilight calls (spoiler alert) “hopeless magic.” What exactly is it and why is it just barely being introduced now? I mean, it doesn’t seem to be an entirely new concept. (spoiler alert) Ponies losing color out of despair has happened in the show before, just not on that scale. I guess I’m just a little confused. That’s all. Then again, a more detailed explanation would have taken time away from the story, so I can’t be too bothered.
So, like I mentioned earlier, I was totally moved by this special. The parts that moved me the most were the song “The End of the Rainbow” and (spoiler alert) the marriage proposal. I totally agree with Pinkie Pie about that song. (minor spoiler alert) “That is the saddest story song I ever heard!” Also, the voice actor who sang that song did an excellent job emoting. On a final note, the marriage proposal totally puts the one I wrote for FlashLight Week 2019 Day 6 to shame. I metaphorically died twice from ship!
In conclusion, “Rainbow Roadtrip” was excellent. If you love moving yet uncomplicated stories with memorable characters, I highly recommend that you give this special a watch.
(Spoiler alert; if you don't want to know details, please don't read this yet.)
I liked it.
To be fair, I kept suspecting that someone had drained the town on purpose (and yes, I did suspect the mayor repeatedly knowing he's innocent - and was truly depressed over what happened - makes me feel all the more guilty). I kept expecting a villain of some sort, or for something to go wrong at the festival (which it didn't).
I loved the proposal at the end. It was the best send off the movie could do.
This was a pretty good special. The way Twilight described what happened to the color as “hopeless magic” kinda reminds me of what happened when Discord corrupted the Mane 6 back in season 2. I wonder if that is just a coincidence or if Discord might know something about hopeless magic?
I liked Twilight’s rainbow wings at the end, they were really great and pretty. The marriage proposal scene was sweet, though I wouldn’t say it puts yours to shame, give yourself more credit!

Aww, thank you.
Having finally seen this special just now, I really must say that I agree with you. This was really fun.
Also, with the Hoofingtons, I couldn’t help but find myself thinking that their mannerisms must’ve been based off of the Howells from “Gilligan’s Island”.
