Hopefully by the time I come back, I'll bring chapter 3 of my story with me.

    Talk to you later.

Critic Slams 'Toy Story 4' For Sexism, Disableism, And Having 'No Black Leads' · 11:29am Jun 26th, 2019

What an idiot. It's like slamming TTTE for having no female characters.

Thanos walks into the room were Duffy is while wearing toy story merchandise on him and a Woody toy in his hand.

Thanos: "Are you the one who is saying that Toy Story 4 was a bad movie."

Duffy: "Yes"

Thanos focuses his mind on Duffy and Snaps his fingers (while wearing the infinity gauntlet) eraseing Duffy from exists: "That is what happens to people who criticize my favorite movie franchise"

Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall for a good 30 seconds.

They’re toys why does it matter that there aren’t black leads?

So, what you meant to say was... Same Shit Different Day :unsuresweetie: ?

*stares off into the sunset while contemplating giving up on humanity*

...But it's a sequel to a long-running franchise with main characters properly established.
And even then, Bo Peep's come-back was the biggest draw and Gabby was a well-developed anti-villain.
Many of the toy's must overcome damages or defects that can easily be interpreted as disabilities, the fear of which or the dealing with thereof.
And I'm pretty sure a toy specifically designed to look like a black character would be fairly redundant, given the fact that they're not meant to be human.
(Not to put too fine a point on it but the only toys I've ever seen designed to look like black people were in a market stall in Sichuan...They were not flattering)

I'm certain this is just a grab for attention. You get them all over the place and they're pretty obvious.
You will know the signs.
The media they're bashing will be hyped, popular, big-name all around and will commonly have a more sincere and progressive message of its own.
That's how they get attention, attaching themselves to the hype of a recent release that doesn't have anyone up in arms against it because why the blazes would it?!

Those people don't care about the context, they need to whine about something for attention... :duck:

Oh, it's not like MLP wasn't hit by similar morons in the past:

https://msmagazine.com/2010/12/09/my-little-homophobic-racist-smarts-shaming-pony/

Look at the date of that article... And here is my favorite quote:

Yes–the only black ponies in the TV show My Little Pony are slave ponies to the white pony overlord! How can we expect kids to grow up rejecting racism when they watch shows like this?

So, Celestia is an evil WHITE overlord to her black PONY slaves... I would love to see that in the show :trollestia:

If Hasbro goes wit the latest trends G5 will look like this:

- Celestia and Luna - lesbian sisters
- Shining Armor will become 'Dark night' - a black fella
- Cadence will become a Hispanic-looking pony
- And Rainbow Dash will be a trans :rainbowlaugh:

Progress! ... or is it :unsuresweetie:?

What in the world was that writer thinking?

Progress! ... or is it :unsuresweetie:?

Progress is worth trying but what's a great deal more important is actually getting it right.
There are people who genuinely want to make a statement or support those who do.
And those who just want to look good for claiming to support it or just get attention for including it at all.

It's very easy to tell the difference and honestly the latter can cause a whole lot of problems because of the very simple, very important reason that people, whether they're big corporations or lone writers, will try to portray something as positively as possible without properly understanding it beforehand which can often lead to the very same problems as portraying it negatively- Misinterpretation of minority groups in the media which is what caused the problem in the first place. Whether positive or negative, no-one, particularly not the minority groups in question, will thank them for it.

Look at Arthur. One of their most recent additions was a same-sex relationship but it was done after a lot of careful planning, research and not made a big deal of on account of the fact that they want to show gay people as people, not devils nor supermen, but members of the community with just as many rights, joys and trials of love and life as straight people.
Same goes for their look at autistic, disabled or terminally ill people. They want to be understood and accepted, not made national heroes who can do no wrong.
I think MLP, for the most part, follows this formula. In fact, shows for kids are often more careful about this than other demographics.
Inclusion of minority groups must be done with care and focus, one straightforward and well-developed step at a time, or it becomes not so much a march towards progress and equity as it does making a circus attraction.

Some people are 'educating' their kids from young years these days, but the point here was that whoever wrote that - threw some serious crap and didn't even bother to watch the show! She later apologized from what I remember and admitted she didn't watch a single episode, but imagine how many sites could quote such person before he or she is proven wrong.

5080492

Either not thinking at all, or... thinking something like: 'I'll make that remark, and I'll get a free publicity on many sites!"

Sadly, the latter seems to be all the rage lately...

And those who just want to look good for claiming to support it or just get attention for including it at all.

If we ignore the latter we'll get a lot of people with good intentions, however we should keep in mind that 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions'

Personally, I think that even people who genuinely want to help certain groups, are ALWAYS in the wrong when they DEMAND the change 'just because.' Demanding something just because you think it's supposed to be that way is childish at best, the same goes for criticizing something using same arguments.

Change takes TIME - trying to shove it down everyone throat faster is - as you noticed - counterproductive.

Inclusion of minority groups must be done with care and focus, one straightforward and well-developed step at a time, or it becomes not so much a march towards progress and equity as it does making a circus attraction.

Agreed, but... IMHO it should also serve a purpose related to the show. I don't know 'Arthur' but if they made that wedding just to send a message, then they probably did more harm than good. Some people (a lot, IMHO) will take it as an attempt to indoctrinate their children, and will fight back - that include people that were neutral to this point. Hell, some people freaked out over Scootaloo's aunts, even though there was NOTHING in the episode that would show they're lesbians - it was just tweeted by the creators.

If that's how some people react to gentle 'nudges,' I can only image their outrage over gay wedding in cartoon.

Honestly, I don't believe cartoons, shows or movies are the way to change views - that's what education should be for, there are no shortcuts here...

5080672
Aren't the people worried about 'indoctrination' sort of in the same pool as the critic making this very complaint?
Paranoid, secluded mud-slingers jumping at shadows on both sides of the spectrum.
Both sides can do without them.

In my experience, kids are a lot more likely to take what they see in cartoons to heart than in the education system. Mainly because once they're old enough to know, they feel it necessary to rebel against it.
I remember it all too well. Racism, homophobia, rape jokes, it was a mess.
None of it really meant anything but it still wasn't a good attitude at the best of times.

Arthur is an educational show. It's touched upon many key issues. It's about teaching children what it's like out there, how to appreciate fortune and overcome difficulties. It runs along the lines of The Berenstein Bears formula, presented with a naive and simplistic outlook to relate to the audience but a sincere tone and delivery.
It did its job well. These things can be accomplished properly if one's careful.
You'll always get people trying to market what they see as a 'trend' (Downside of the system) but when it counts for something, it's worth it.

5080672
Sadly, some people are idiots. They want to look good, and slamming something as sexist or whatever is an easy way to get publicity. The officers on my student union do it all the time, not because they believe something is wrong, but because it's attention seeking.

so much....so much hatred and utter disappointment in humanity...I need to sleep but now I can't.
