My Little Pony Season 9 News 06/21/2019 · 11:35am Jun 21st, 2019

I'll say this about Celestia, she has excellent taste.

GOOD MORNING, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! As of today, we are less than 24 hours away from the mid-season finale and what better way to reach a break than what could be that Royal Sisters episode we’ve been waiting to see (Not like they haven’t had an episode of sorts, but that’s besides the point). Considering on the matter that we won’t have any Season 9 episodes at least until August at the latest and under the note that an hourly special will be set to air the week after this episode, we can only hope that this portion of the season ends on a relatively strong note. Without any further delay, let’s dive right in for a deeper look at the episode collectively titled:

Between Dark and Dawn

Before we go into depths of what this episode holds, again I am aware that this episode was released in Italy prior to tomorrow’s release. By now it’s pretty formula, but just because I can’t express this enough:

NO SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

*Clears throat* As the initial story goes, Princess Celestia and Luna decide to take a long overdo sister vacation thereby leaving Twilight Sparkle and her friends to cover the princesses’ many royal duties in their absence. There are two takeaways from this episode that will need to be look into:

The sisters on vacation
Twilight and her friends managing the castle

First, we examine the sisters’ decision to get their royal flanks off their thrones and take a vacation somewhere in Equestria, which according to a recent trailer could pretty much be any place that promises to be fun. Ever since the announcement regarding the possibility that the princesses are set to retire and bestow the responsibilities of their home to Twilight Sparkle (Who was ‘Twilighting’ at the HIGHEST level), fans have had mixed feelings in regards to this decision several of whom (Who I won’t name at this time) were ballsy enough to voice their opinion towards the crew themselves regardless if they received the message or not. But I think what we need to take into account as ‘why’ the princesses would want a vacation, considering we would never imagine these royal figures as the type to take a day off. Given the initial excitement they’ve had when fighting with their mentor, Starswirl the Bearded, to keep the Everfree Forest at bay due to the loss of the ‘Elements of Harmony’ it stands to reason that the initial excitement as to what they’ve been missing out for so long propels the two sisters to get out into the world to find adventure and perhaps for this one day step into the hooves of the team of ponies who are used to this ordeal. Course, one would think if it’s a vacation they wanted you’d think they’d want to just kick back and relax, enjoy some quiet time away from documents to overlook and Gala preparations but at least for about half of this episode (If not for the majority) in a way we can look at this episode as a ‘Royal Sisters’ story the fans hoped to see.

While the girls try to have a fun time and ‘living’ in the moment (Not like they have ‘that’ to worry about given their supposed immortality), that leaves Twilight and the girls to be in their horseshoes to understand what it’s like running the kingdom. Because whether we approve of this decision or not, Twilight Sparkle is destined to one day rule Equestria so in a way this would be a warm-up for her to know how it’ll feel to run a kingdom (I mean she already owns a castle mind you). At least unlike that season finale where she had to use the Princesses’ powers by herself (Which is probably what they’ll again leave her responsible with), this time she’ll actually have her friends helping her out since it was also decided they’d run Equestria together (Something that unlike Twilight they were initially excited about it). Still, the last time these girls wanted to prove they can handle the job by themselves… They were overrun by the Everfree Forest and, though they did hold their own, hours of chopping plants eventually takes a toll even for these six heroes (Spike was hypnotized at this point, don’t think I forgot). At least at this moment, even if their only ‘temporarily’ running the kingdom, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was one of those stories where ‘They think the job will be easy, but they have ‘no’ idea’.

But the big question still remains: What do YOU think? Be sure to leave a comment below at your earliest convenience.

Until next week, faithful readers, this is the Dramamaster829… Signing off!

I found the episode really lacking actually. I only made it through the first half.

The pacing, characterization and set up for the conflict before the sisters actually go on vacation felt really off to me. The dialogue just felt unnatural and the whole B-Plot was kinda stupid to me.
Of course I'm not surprised, as this episode was written by Gail Simone, someone whose work I generally loathe.

I will give the episode that Nicole and Tabitha almost made it for me. They really had fun with this one and it shows.

Bit of a spoiler...

BUT... Chances are I might have a different opinion when I see the episode for myself. So because this is just the first time getting one from you, I'm going to let it 'pass' just for today. So long as you don't make a 'habit' out of it.

Otherwise...

No, I need only worry about myself and decide how the episode works for myself. Who knows? Maybe my opinion could either turn out to be the same experience or maybe I am able to see something most people don't.

Just try not to do that again, all right?

OH sorry. I thought you had seen it already.

I tend to just skim over long posts. Won't happen again.

Hope you'll find enjoyment.

Well if you had read my blog without 'looking between the lines', you'd known I SPECIFICALLY said I 'never' watched the 'Italian' releases. Mainly because I don't speak Italian and the other reason being I'd like to support the 'official' release as much as possible. Normally I would be infuriated when someone spoils the episode after I ask them not to, especially if you were another of those 'viewers' who insist on giving me trouble and making as if watching the episode isn't worth my time (I hate the fans who 'force' me to support their ideals).

BUT... Since I don't know you and you admit it was a mistake, like I said I'm letting this 'slide'. I'm just hoping that I 'will' enjoy this episode... OR, worse case scenario this might be the 'one' episode on the line-up I didn't entirely enjoyed. But you'll know for sure once I post my review next week, whenever I decide to upload it.
