My Little Pony G5 News 08/26/2022 · 6:17pm Aug 26th, 2022

Ooh! I can feel my Pony senses tingling with this one!

GOOD AFTERNOON, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for Generation 5 and beyond! Before we proceed with today's covering of recent G5 events, I do feel it is only fitting to share a bit of... 'unfortunate' news. Due to recent delays with the galleries, the source of where I find most of the imagery for my blogs (The person in charge of those galleries I won't mention by name... only because I don't know them), further reviews of the 'TYT' series as well as a spoiler review of the 'Make Your Mark' special will be indefinitely on hiatus. I say 'indefinitely' because I truly don't know how long it'll be until those galleries are updated. You know the folks who make SO MANY excuses just because they have the inability to juggle between life, work... and above all, the fun that came with it.

Philistines...

Anyways... moving on to more important matters at hand, MLP G5 has attempted to build up a repertoire what with recent media they've been dishing out. When not releasing every 'Tell Your Tale' episode every week, we get the occasional comics for G5 which some fans enjoy and others... well, they're just twiddling their fingers trying to determine how canon they are with what's going on. In any case, we stand at about one month away from the upcoming 'Make Your Mark' series set to follow both the first special that was released a few months ago with a few likely nods to the 'Tell Your Tale' series. In speaking of the 'Make Your Mark' series, we're looking at a full pipeline of G5 content set to be released within the period (Approximately four forty-four minute specials and twenty-three regular episodes).

But today, we're here to discuss some news surrounding eight episodes set to be released on Netflix this coming September. For whatever reason they decided to mark the episodes as 'Chapter Two' instead of 'Season 2'.

Chapter Two? What happened to Chapter One?!

Yeah... I'm not going to try to figure that out...

Anyways, to add to our discussion on what this series has to offer, a series of screen caps have just been released to support what we can expect with these eight twenty-two minute episodes. Possibly the biggest subject we have centered on the series is the arrival of a recently introduced new villain onto the scene, that being... the 'Queen'... Opaline!

So your majesty, what shall we do today?
The same thing we do every day minion, plan for the sequel where we take over Equestria... AND THE WORLD!!!

After that one shocking reveal prior to the events of the special (If that hadn't been revealed in my spoiler-free blog, I was going to dive into her with the spoiler one... but if you're reading at this point, sucks to be you!). Ever since the pony's release, eventually a name reveal was granted upon this mysterious dark Alicorn, with a source referring to her as 'Opaline'. The word 'Opaline' bearing a resemblance to 'Opalscent', in which is an adjective that describes varying colors as an opal.

Meow?

No, no, no... not that Opal...

*Straightens up* With that being possibly the evil pony's name, a map also reveals the location to that castle of which was partly shown upon the map you can see below:

I swear it looks like a Kindergartener drew this...

From what we can gather about this Opaline based on appearance, she seems to be the first 'legit' Alicorn in this series. For those arguing about Sunny's status, given that those wings and horn of hers mainly come and go it's difficult to really say if she even counts as a full-fledge Alicorn or if that's just magic doing the work for her.

You're going to start a fan war over this, are you?

Probably! But since we already have an idea on the Queen, what is there to say about her minion? Actually... nothing's come up about it yet. On one hand, she seems like the typical side villain wanting to prove herself to her Queenly-ness...

What beautiful flowers! It be a shame if a certain 'accident' happened...

But on the other hand, she might be more fearful of the Queen than we figured and she's really only doing this because she has no other choice. Whether or not these ponies are related in some form, perhaps friends at one point or even sharing a sisterly relationship, that we'll have to determine as the series progresses. Our heroes may not know that these two are plotting to take advantage over this return of magic, but they'll definitely need to keep a sharp eye out for any sign of danger...

Oh yeah! Definitely getting my good side with this shot!

*Frowns* Gee, it's going to be 'so hard' because some ponies can't put down their phone for 'five' seconds...

Oh, sit on a dick, Dramamaster!

HEY!!! *Clears throats* Anyways, another portion of our subject for this blog also centers on the introduction to the 'Spike' of the new group, in which case that would be... Sparky Sparkeroni.

Ah, the little tike wants to go and destroy people...

Ever since the little dragon's debut prior to the special, a few questions had popped up which ironically was brought upon by the cast themselves. Among which questions was 'Why'... why did this dragon suddenly show up when their race hadn't been heard of in an undetermined amount of time? Why couldn't Hitch talk to him like all the other animals? Is there a reason that his egg just happened to wash up upon the shores of the pony races? We hadn't heard much about Sparky since his arrival, he almost hardly ever shows up in recent 'TYT' episodes, and one could even wonder if the introduction of this dragon will even carry some form of weight to the story that this series has been struggling to work with?

Or maybe the studio thought it be fun to add a cute little sidekick!

Sure... let's go with the 'easy' answer...

Admittedly, I've been cautiously optimistic about this approach to the 'MLP' format ever since 'Friendship is Magic' came to an end to pave way for this 'Generation 5' ordeal. While I've been okay with where this series has been going, I've honestly felt as though the show hasn't really hit that 'Wow!' factor we were looking for. Some would even go to argue that the use of the animation has not been as much of an improvement, some saying it's downgrading from the feature. Not to mention the 'story' has been lacking a bit of that 'substance' we'd be graced with when G4 was an ordeal. For all we know, a major concern for the fans would be if this new direction of the series turns out to be a big mess than what it was intending to be...

Yeah... I'm not going to comment about this part...

But on the bright side of the scale...

Ooh... shiny!

Yes... thank you, Sunny. Anyways, because the series as a whole is still 'pretty' early as far as what they are hoping to deliver (Sort of like the Season 1 of G5 so to speak), again it's all about building up on those 'first' impressions for the fans. The movie and its first special was considered a warm-up in a sense, what with the 'TYT' series being a more comedic appetizer. With the impending arrival of this Make Your Mark series set to air on Netflix next month, our hope is that the company behind the series have at least 'pondered' over some of our concerns we've had about the release of this new line-up and whether or not they are willing to show they can improve upon some of the material's weakest elements. While I still enjoy this set of MLP releases overall, getting a chuckle every now and then, as an 'optimist' my hope is that there's all the time in the world to demonstrate that the series 'can' get better over time. The characters can be engaging and there's no question that the animation is about as colorful as they can get. But if this 'Make Your Mark' series is meant to be where the 'story driven' narrative is at its peak, it must be able to prove that it can not only go above and beyond the fans expectations, but in doing so it can stand at a level entirely all on its own.

Wow... way to be subtle about the pressure.

*Frowns in annoyance* Anyways...

Overall, we have about thirty-something days before the first line-up of the 'Make Your Mark' series gets set to air. We may not know what plans G5 has in store for us nor how much they'll attempt to cover in precisely 22 minutes an episode. What we are aware of is that the special pretty much gave us all the questions that most of us fans have been asking about and under that note, we can only hope that at some point the series will take note of these speculations:

* Why does Sunny's Alicorn magic come and go?
* Why does Hitch Trailblazer only now have the magical power to understand every animal except for Sparky?
* Where did the magic come from?
* Who made the Crystals?
* How did they get separated?
* Why didn't Earth ponies have magic before?

But the BIGGER question still remains: What do you think? Be sure to leave a comment below at your earliest convenience.

Until then faithful readers, this is the Dramamaster829... signing off!

I say Sunny is not a true alicorn, and this "Opaline" is the only known true alicorn that exists in G5

Anyway, I also wish for these questions to be answered in the upcoming Make Your Mark series, they are important knowledge. But maybe Hitch can't understand Sparky because he's essentially like an infant right now and will grow to be able to speak the same language as the ponies, like Spike and the other G4 dragons could? It would make sense because Hitch can only understand nonverbal animals, and if Sparky is theoretically able to verbally communicate like his ancestors, Hitch wouldn't be able to understand him because he's going to grow into his voice later

I am curious about what direction the series is taking. Especially since the G5 comic is already releasing the origins of what happened following the events of the last problem. But we’ll see if the series and comic intends to make that canon to both versions

I also have my concerns on where the G5 season is heading, needs more "wow" than anything, still many questions not answered, hopefully the makers/staff will start explaining soon, im still watching but the scale has been tilting slightly towards "G5 crashing":twilightoops:, awesome blog Drama, you and Mr. E rocking it XD, stay cool, stay classy, peace:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

It's likely that Opaline was obtaining her alicorn status around the time magic was abundant during this period in Equestria. However, when the crystals were separated and the magic faded away she was unable to actually use the magic. If this were to suggest Opaline's role in it, it may not have been entirely her fault but she was bitter that she was unable to use magic for her own desires and now with it back she can finally do what she set out to do.

Initially in the G4 period, there was never any communication barriers between ponies and dragons in the first place nor any of the other species. And since this series makes numerous references to G4, it's likely that Sparky will eventually speak to Hitch but he's only just hatched. But for all we know, this dragon could be very smart for a little boy.

The issues regarding whether the television run and the comics share any connection at all has often been an issue, especially with the G4 period for example. What we saw were two different periods of which barely acknowledge each other's existence. This is my concern with this period now. We see the origins of the crystals and a villain determined to make sure the crystals stay apart for his own reasons, but for all we know the 'show' could run a different story. UNLESS... one of the forty-four minute specials are actually an adaptation of the comics itself, which would be something the G4 team never considered.

The thing you need to know is that when it comes to these blogs... Mr. Enigma has nothing to do with it. These are all on me, everything you see written down is out of my own accord. All the jokes, the imagery, the thoughts... all me. When it comes to these blogs, these are the materials where I fly solo. I've never had 'any' help with any of my blogs.

Now onto the subject of G5... 'yeah', I feel like they are missing that 'WOW!' factor. It's not like I'm asking for this series to be what G4 was and 'not' just be a 'girls show' which is essentially indicating that this series is going a step backwards from the success G4 had. Unless this is just a phase, like the Season 1 jitters even way back when.

I don't know why but the villain colour palet is a bit of a eye sore

It is a little bright. Could've darkened the coat a little more. But if the idea was to have all eyes centered on that villainous, then on that note they did their task well.

I know its all you for the blogs, i was just saying in general that you and Mr. E rocking the stories and chapters, sorry, i should've been more direct, anyway.....im hoping its just a phase, otherwise they losing a brony, ive watched MLP G4 from start to end, I'd hate to leave the fandom, heres hoping the future G5 episode are good *praying*
