This list is not about my favorite stories of all time. That's my favorites list and one of these days I may get around to writing reviews of those fics.
The List is about stand-out, in-progress works that deserve more love, for whatever reason. In addition to general reviews of the fics, these blog posts will tell why I picked a particular story and highlight any features the reader should look out for. Spoilers will be appropriately marked, so you'll be able to read my reviews with confidence that you'll be able to read the story itself and experience the same surprise and delight I did when I first found it.
Also, authors and fans of works will be able to submit stories. Your particular selection may not make it onto the list, and the more information you give me for why you think it should be featured, the more likely I'll be to read and post it. Premise
Magic is energy, and as everyone knows energy cannot be destroyed, only converted or moved. So when the Elements of Harmony purge Sunset Shimmer of the corrupted magic that turned her into a demon after the Fall Formal...what happened to it? Well, it went to another Sunset Shimmer, one who just transferred to Crystal Prep right after the Friendship Games.
Princess Columbia's Synopsis
While there's already some spoilery stuff in the above premise, it's not really a huge deal, as the big stuff that happens in this fic happens much later than the "reveal" of the above information in-story. This fic is all about the human-world version of Sunset as she uses her newfound magical abilities to be the world's first real Magical Girl...well, first that wasn't already a magical pony before coming to this world.
Why am I highlighting this fic?
Admittedly, I'm a sucker for a good magical girl series. Sailor Moon, PMMM, Yuki Yuna, Magic Knights, etc. are all my happy place (...OK, PMMM isn't really a "happy" place, so much as a really, really good part of the Catharsis Place right next to my Happy Place), so to see a horse-fic that entertains and lampoons and magnifies and adheres to all the tropes of the genre is just a whole lot of fun.
What makes this fic particularly good?
Besides being a good horsefic, this would make a fantastic sequel series to the show with fairly minimal re-writing for corporate's general happiness levels...if Hasbro could get the stick out of their collective ass when it comes to taking a stance on LGBTQ+ relationships.
Who would like this fic?
Magical girl fans, EQG fans, Sunset Shimmer fans, and people who like a good superhero series.
