    I got ART!

I know I haven't done a blog in awhile, but being a full-time single parent working a full-time job, and a part-time writer tends to really chew into the hours I have in a week. That said, I just had to carve out a little time to show off the remarkable gift I was given from Lady Lightning Strike by way of the amazingly talented artist Pridark.

    Commissions!

Yeah, been awhile since I've written any sort of blog post, but I do have some good news. I'm re-opening to commissions! My patrons on Patreon will get priority for their commissions first, but it doesn't mean that everyone else can't ask for some stories either. Here are my commission conditions:

So... a small heads up about the upcoming month...

I'm about to start writing the final chapter or two of the Brightly Lit saga, after which time I'm actually going to be going on vacation for a week. As in actual time off from my job and all other responsibilities. Which means no Twilight Learned this month, and perhaps not next month either as I reassess things in the wake of the end of writing roughly 350,000 words on one pair of stories set

So... a bit of a heads up

Over the past few years I've engaged in a practice of letting my patrons on Patreon decide what story I should update following the Brightly Lit update in the month, and I've noticed a bit of a pattern. Mainly that anytime "How Twilight Learned" comes up in the voting it easily wins. So recently I asked my patrons if they would like me to just concentrate on Brightly Lit and HTL until one of

    State of the Pen

It's been 10 days since my brother died and 6 since we laid him to rest at the foot of a willow tree near a shady stream. I find myself both functional and numb. I can act, react, and do things, but anything beyond the basics is like trying to push fog with your hands. Something happens but not much. I find myself staring at a computer screen and feeling... nothing.

I did a dumb.... · 5:10am May 17th, 2019

No, not that. Not intentionally anyway.

Okay, here's the thing. When it all went to hell, one of the things that got me going again was getting regular, full-time work. I am, somewhat proud to say, a hard worker. I'm very much an equine in that regards. I was born in the Year of the Horse, as was my oldest child, as was my father, by strange coincidence. I am descended from a line of horse warriors, and in fact my last name is a bastardization of the name for them.

I have strength, endurance, and an ability to rise back up from blows that would kill many others.

However, it also means that sometimes I need to be reined in, lest I work myself into the ground. Last night was day 10 of a planned 12 in a row due to inventory at work and recovery from that. Junior supervisor comes up to me...

"Hey Pen, you doing okay?"
"A little tired, but I'm good."

I wasn't. Every time I stood up with a load, which was all the time, I'd feel a pressure in my skull and things would threaten to gray out. Each time I pushed it back with force of will and kept going. The job needed doing, and by all the gods I was going to do it. That was only part of the dumb I did. I also had forgotten to make a lunch and was running that night on coffee and sugar. Plus, something I didn't know.

Recently, I've been put back on blood thinners. They apparently do not work and play well with the Tylenol I had taken for some minor aches and pains. Nor do they really like the single can of cider I'd had 16 hours before. It's a very good thing I didn't cut myself at all.

Later that night, senior supervisor comes up to me...

"Hey, so me and the other supervisors had a talk. You look like I feel. I'm re-arranging your schedule."
"But boss, I feel fine."
"No you don't. I know that look. I'm putting both your weekends back to back, so go home after end of shift, rest up for 4 days, come back and crush it like I know you can and usually do."
"Okay..."

So now I'm at home, on enforced rest and typing at you all. At least it does mean I can get some writing done. Brightly, followed by a new clop one-shot.

After another nap.

At least your bosses are cool enough to recognize when a worker has pushed themselves too far and need rest to return to 100%

Just listen to them and play video games for a few days or sum just relax

yeah, doing that. Streaming occasionally too.
Damn missing letter...

It's a great sign that your boss at least cares about your well being, get some rest and relax a few days, sounds like you've sure earned it!

There's a very applicable apples-related moral lesson from this one cartoon show that I watch.

I might have heard to that show... "Your Big Horse?"
