My Little Pony Season 9 News 04/30/2019 · 4:36pm Apr 30th, 2019

GOOD AFTERNOON, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! Now I am under the impression that it's a little 'early' to give my final thoughts on this weekend's episode, this I am fully aware just to get this out of the way. But considering that I'll be out of town to celebrate my sister's graduation from college and on that note I'll likely be away from a computer for quite some time, I figured I'd post this blog now as sort've a send off to this month. And in case you aren't aware of this image just above, today we're going over a little more about this week's new episode:

Common Ground

Under the circumstances, we've had much to discuss about this episode these past few weeks since it first came up. We know this episode marks the return of Quibble Pants, we all know he's come to Rainbow Dash for help, and the task involves him trying to find 'common ground' with the daughter of his 'special somepony'. Now here's something a few might not know: Not only will we see the return of Patton Oswalt in this show, but on that note 'his family' will portray the two characters in this one episode that being the special somepony and daughter as previously mentioned. You've got to imagine Mr. Oswalt must've pulled out a ton of stops just to ensure that his family gets a role in this episode and in my opinion, it almost makes sense because in a way it's like Oswalt falling in love and starting to become a father figure again. For those who don't know about his family, allow me to take the time to share:

Meredith Salenger, who is scheduled to portray Quibble Pants' love interest, may not be familiar to some fans right away but she's been involved in a ton of media over the years. Among her most famous roles, she played the title role in the 1985 film "The Journey of Natty Gann", a feature in which she won the Young Artist award for "Best Starring Performance by a Young Actress - Motion Picture". Mrs. Salenger has also been part of the 1989 teen comedy, "Dream a Little Dream" and even a few starring roles in T.V. shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Cold Case", and even Cartoon Network's "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". Now I will admit I have never seen 'either' of these features but some may know of her performance in more recognizable material such as when she voiced Supergirl in... "Teen Titans Go! To The Movies" (I only saw the movie for the one bonus scene during the credits, hated the overall experience). Based on her resume, she's definitely a talented actress to be trusted by Patton Oswalt to take part in this episode (Unless it was the studio's idea) but either way they should have some fun chemistry during the episode.

And while I admit I hardly have much detail to go over with Patton's daughter, Alice (Who will voice the daughter of Quibble's love interest), what we know for a fact is this marks her first voice-over... No, her first 'acting' role in general. In some way, portraying a pony in a 'My Little Pony' show at this age was nearly every little girl's dream especially during the time when male audiences weren't as common as it is today. They say first impressions are vital when it comes to whether this child will want to continue to explore acting like her parents or if this is pretty much a one time deal. But depending on how her portrayal turns out, we hope that we are treated with some memorable performances from this episode because not many children at her age have ever had this opportunity. We may not know much about the new characters other than this little filly loves sports more than her father, but just as we expect to see a few laughs and giggles as expected in an MLP episode I hope this may be one episode that tugs on the heartstrings over a relatable issue for parents everywhere.

But now the big question remains: What do YOU think? Be sure to leave a comment below when you get the chance.

Until next week's review, this is the Dramamaster829... Signing off!

Note: After further investigation, we can confirm the names of the characters Patton's family will portray. The little one is named Wind Sprint and the mother is named Clear Sky.

Don t you just love it when voice actors families act like a family in animation.

It's a very rare moment when this happens I'll say this much. Now I haven't seen the episode yet, but I'm hearing good things about it so far. I'll let everyone know in my review when I finally tune into the episode that folks have been discussing.

In some way, portraying a pony in a 'My Little Pony' show at this age was nearly every little girl's dream especially during the time when male audiences weren't as common as it is today.

So, are you saying that MLP: FiM's large male audience makes it less likely that a little girl wants to voice act for a pony?

I actually don't know how to respond to that statement actually. I was merely reflecting on an earlier time when the MLP media was essentially focused on one demographic as far as audiences are concerned. Sure, MLP Tales had several male characters but let's face it nobody cared about those guys any more than they cared about 'most' of the male stars in this generation (Not 'all' just 'most').

But if I'm going to be frank: I'm not the one who said that directly, that's coming from your words. I'm sure there are tons of young female actors who'd like the opportunity Patton's daughter has but not everyone is that lucky. Most kids at that age, there's a difference between acting in those stage programs featuring kid actors... And then there's 'television' acting, a higher level than what they are used to.

Your statement implies that little girls wanted to do that more when My Little Pony's audience wasn't dominated by adult males, though, by focusing on times when that wasn't the case.
If it wasn't meant like that, you might want to go and rephrase that. It lets you come across differently.

I'll keep that in mind, but I knew what I was talking about. I only needed to hope... 'You' knew, but I suppose not. I don't want to start anything unnecessary, I just meant that little lass is lucky to have this experience and I'll go more into that in my episode review. Still has a lot of work to be done till then.

I only needed to hope... 'You' knew, but I suppose not.

The brony fandom has a history of facing radical people who believe that "My Little Pony" always is and only should be for little girls and considered a little girls show and openly hated on bronies. Most of that has died down. But some are still poking out their heads here and there. I'm just making sure.

Well for your reassurance, I certainly don't fit the stereotype of 'radicals'. I'm all about equal opportunity, especially since I've done a dabble of acting myself. What I meant to say was that in this little girl's case, most young actors aren't so lucky to get this part especially those who weren't born in an acting family. I myself can barely get a supporting role in a play I know I can do better in and I'm still a young guy for my age (I won't go into details).

If you were worried about how this discussion was turning out, it was not my intent to lead readers on from the main point: That this wee lass achieved this goal most young actors, boys and girls, don't get the opportunity to have. Not just in 'MLP' or cartoons in general... I'm talking ALL of television acting as a whole.

Does that help a bit?

I see. Guess I can let you off the hook about this then.

I really appreciate that.
