I just saw it myself, and I thought it was really exciting, interesting, and well-played.
The only thing that bothered me about it was that I felt that the person who played Sombra didn’t give the right kind of voice for the character. He sounded too...cringy, and I still think Tim Curry would have been a better choice.
They're not retiring YET. At the end, they clearly state that eventually, Twilight WILL take over for them.

Well, let's hope that happens in the very far future. Or maybe Twilight will decide to choose her own destiny or something like that.
Honestly, I'm really not on board with the idea of Twilight ruling Equestria. Don't get me wrong, I really like her, but I think he's fine where she is. She's an Alicorn, she's got a castle, and she runs an entire school with an exchange student program and everything. She doesn't need to earn the entire nation on top of all that.
Besides, it just wouldn't be the same without Best Pony and her older sister watching over things...

He actually proved himself to be very intelligent, intimidating, competent, and a force to be reckoned with.
