Mission to the Pony Planet CH 16 Info · 7:18am Mar 21st, 2019
The 16th chapter of Mission to the Pony Planet will require some extra info to get the full benefit. If you have already seen episode 100 (AKA the 9th episode of the 5th season titled "Slice of Life") and read "Lyra and Bon Bon and the Mares from S.M.I.L.E." then you're all set and can ignore this blog post.
I have links at the bottom of this post where you can go to watch the episode or read the novel, but it you just want the basic, minimum information necessary before reading the chapter, I have noted it here (spoiler tags where appropriate):
1) S.M.I.L.E. Stands for SECRET MONSTER INTELLIGENCE LEAGUE OF EQUESTRIA and is the unnamed organization Bon Bon mentions she worked for in episode 100.
2) The novel explains that the organization actually wasn't shut down after all, just the one branch Bon Bon was in. She and Lyra (for reasons) then get brought into the Manehattan branch.
3) The SMILE organization actually has their own code names for the Mane6, and well as a 5-letter acronym for their official friendship and/or royal activities which I reference in this chapter. I did not make them up myself.
4) The novel uses a few unique terms such as "hoofpack," and "Hidequarters," that I also used.
5) Also, the novel and ep 100 explain that Sweetie Drops is Bon Bon's real name, but everypony in Ponyville knows her as Bon Bon. However, in one of the Equestria Girls shorts, "Happily Ever After Party (choose Rainbow Dash)" Apple Bloom refers to her human counterpart as Sweetie Drops. So, either EqG Sweetie Drops doesn't have a secret identity, or it's reversed. Maybe in the EqG world, her real name is Bon Bon and Sweetie Drops is her Special Agent cover.
