[THE LIST] ...no, there aren't two entries in one week...shuddup! *runs* · 9:08pm Feb 1st, 2019
This list is not about my favorite stories of all time. That's my favorites list and one of these days I may get around to writing reviews of those fics.
The List is about stand-out, in-progress works that deserve more love, for whatever reason. In addition to general reviews of the fics, these blog posts will tell why I picked a particular story and highlight any features the reader should look out for. Spoilers will be appropriately marked, so you'll be able to read my reviews with confidence that you'll be able to read the story itself and experience the same surprise and delight I did when I first found it.
Also, authors and fans of works will be able to submit stories. Your particular selection may not make it onto the list, and the more information you give me for why you think it should be featured, the more likely I'll be to read and post it. To submit a fiction, simply PM me through FiMFiction's link on my profile.

Second Chances: A Redemption Story
by

Premise
Adagio is interested in two things: Revenge and survival. She will do whatever it takes to get both, though not necessarily in that order. After hearing about the debacle at the Friendship Games, Adagio enrolls the Sirens at Crystal Prep with the promise to Principal Cinch that they would unearth some magic of Crystal Prep's own so they could one-up Canterlot High. As the other Dazzling's interest in revenge wanes with their new, magicless lives and new friends, it becomes a game of chess between Adagio and Cinch over who can best take advantage of whom.
And if that weren't enough, Adagio starts having off feelings about Sci-Twi.
Princess Columbia's Synopsis
Right off the bat you can tell that this version of Adagio is a...heh...fish out of water.
Eh? Eh?!
Moving on...Adagio has never had to deal with being magicless, and she doesn't quite know how to handle it. This story truly is Adagio's, as she feels like the world as she knew it is vanishing and she has no coping mechanisms for the world that takes it's place. Aria just decides to not deal with Adagio's shit anymore, and Sonata starts making friends that don't tear her down. When Dean Cadance arranges for Twilight Sparkle to tutor the Siren, Adagio starts to experience a relationship that isn't about amassing power, and she just has no idea what to do about it.
Why am I highlighting this fic?
It's just a damn good fic. One doesn't need to have been in Adagio's position to feel the catharsis of her struggle, and there's moments of genuine tension over whether Adagio chooses to play the hero of the story, or just the protagonist.
What makes this fic particularly good?
This fic isn't written First Person...but hot-damn it could be! It's a masterfully painted work where you are fully aware of Adagio's tunnel vision and can easily see ways out of whatever situation she's in, but the author does such a good job of showing how Adagio doesn't see those options and making the bad decisions the character makes completely in-character and believable.
Who would like this fic?
Dazzling fanboys and people who like a good redemption story.
Does the author monetize?2
No, be sure to drop them a line to encourage them to become a filthy, filthy capitalist.
- Endorsement on Princess Columbia's List is an endorsement of the selected work of fiction only and is not intended to endorse the creator of the work in any other way.
- Why highlight whether the author monetizes their work? By providing renumeration to the author, you often get the opportunity to request certain works be given higher priority. Additionally, when a person is able to get paid for their passion on their terms, it can often allow them to cut out things that otherwise distract from said passion, like a day job.
