I was just curious what arcane technosorcery decided its contents. Cos like my shit ends up there and I don't get it.
Featured box? A combination of views, likes and favourites combined with an unknown algorithm dictates the top seven spots.
The bottom three slots are reserved for updated popular stories that also get views and likes with a lower threshold, so it changes constantly. I've updated a fic or two that were previously featured that got back into the box.

If I had to make a silly guess and throw around fancy 100 quid words I would wager the terms "Binomial proportion confidence interval" (i.e. the "Wilson Score" in the search filter) and "exponential time decay" would factor somewhere in it.
