Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

    One final thing...

I have been advised by no less an authority than CHS acting Vice-Principal Ms. Cheerilee to use the upcoming Midnight Rising chapter as strictly a recap to relaunch the story, and not get into Lemon Zest until the following chapter, when I can devote a full entry to it without any split in focus. No, really. She did. You’ll see what I mean when the chapter launches, but basically, I’m

Flight of Firefly - Part 13 will be launched this weekend · 3:31pm Jan 23rd, 2019

Tentatively titled "Cavern Clash", which should give some clue as to its contents, it currently stands at 5200 words and climbing; I suspect it will be at around 8k when all is said and done. As I started into it, I realized I had yet to address a nagging question leftover from the first book--namely, what happened to the two Ravens captured at Epsilon the evening before the war? You know, the pair that had pursued the changeling spy who was trying to deliver the stolen war plans? This chapter will provide a surprising answer, as well as Gavian's account of his first true time in combat. How will he do? Let's just say he developed his own special attack, one that draws its inspiration from both a game and an anime... :rainbowdetermined2:

The Climactic Battle for Epsilon will feature many different perspectives, including three not heard from in this story yet. Gavian is one. The others... I'll leave a surprise. However, this chapter will only focus on one side of the battle as the gryphons have their own plan to take down Epsilon quickly and cheaply; one that does indeed catch the ponies off-guard. You'll learn what that is in the coming chapter.

I intend to finish the chapter draft in the next couple days, and have it to prereaders by this weekend with a projected Sunday launch. No maps this time, sorry, simply because the coming battle is a bit too chaotic for it.

:yay: !!!
I had a storm of updated stories I was flipping between, and just restarted this story last night so I should be caught up by the weekend. The maps definitely seem to be a bunch of hard work I wasn't really expecting, and they look fantastic.

Very glad to hear it! :pinkiehappy: The maps are indeed difficult and time-consuming, but they’re worth it for the detail they provide. I eventually plan to go back and make some additional ones for earlier battles, if I can ever find the time and motivation to do so.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the story so far! Probably be fifteen chapters just to finish off the first day of war! :twilightoops:
