In the Little Flashes series, Twilight and Rainbow Dash are a couple.
The recent MLP holiday special featured Twilight going into a full-blown meltdown at the last minute. Applejack referred to this as a 'traditional holiday meltdown.' She then proceeded to talk in a slow, soothing voice to Twilight to get her to calm down and get it together.
In this version of things, they just send RD to clap Twilight on the rump, stunning her into silence and forcing her brain to reboot.
This also gives Rainbow a chance to cuddle up and offer comfort and support, helping Twilight calm down.
