Nightmare: Rise of the Demons Rewrite Update. · 7:03pm Dec 28th, 2018
I've decided it. I will rewrite the story. The old one won't be deleted, but I'll probably make it accessible via link only.
So, what's the update about? Well, first of all, I will be changing some appearances. I know it doesn't really concern the plot that much, but I included a fair bit of images in the original story, as well as some music. I'm going to redo those as well. So, welcome the new Andromalius! I recommend zooming in the image if you're having trouble seeing the details. That, or click this to access the version without the background or the hexagram.
What I changed:
1. Removed the helmet. While it was nice, it didn't really make that much sense. Not to mention that Nightmares in the game I made this crossover with don't wear helmets. From what I managed to understand, it's a part of their exoskeleton, so it can't be taken off or anything like that.
2. Changed the eyes to be more pony-like. I think it makes more sense and they don't look that bad.
3. Some other minor things that don't really matter.
For those looking for a direct comparison, here is the original image of Andromalius I did two years ago:
To be honest, I like the new version better. It has more and better details, and, well, it's no longer too cartoonish. Getting a bit more serious now.
I'm still planning how exactly to change the story in a way that won't change it too much where the sequel is concerned, but I have some ideas. Anyway, what do you think about the redrawn Andromalius?
imo the new one has waaaaay too many armor plates, the old one was a nice combination of complex and simple, just because things are getting more serious in the story doesnt mean the looks need a re-do...

Well, to be honest, the redrawn looks are more accurate to the original picture. I know I didn't exactly need to do a redraw, but I really felt like it, and I've not drawn anything in a while. So, this was a nice practice picture. It's my first time drawing any muscles, so I think I did rather well. Plus I'm trying to go away from drawing simple circle eyes and to more natural shapes.
I guess I can sum it up with "It feels good to redo things in better ways"
Well, it's true about the helmet, in the game nightmares don't have, and don't wear helmets, BUT, leaders of the faction itself do, and it would make sense that a leader from the game would be a leader in the story, And if you look closely, you can see that leaders have hooves as well, so you can consider Andromalius, not just a unit from the game, but a ponified leader of the inferno faction. And slightly toned down, like Agrael.

That makes sense. Though, at the beginning of the story, he's not exactly a leader yet. Hm, you actually gave me a pretty nice idea that I'll use in the sequel, most likely. Or in a rewritten prequel.
So question: I haven't fully read through the original. Will the new version have any effect on the sequel story? And since I haven't fully read through the original, may I have a link when/if you make it link only?

The sequel might get some minor changes because of the rewrite of the original, but other than that, I think it will stay the same. As for the link, it'll be provided in the description of the rewrite once I publish it.

Well no-one's born a leader, and does one's body change when he becomes one? Ofcourse not.

I suppose that a helmet can be given. In Medieval times, having armor, especially that of steel, was considered prestigious. Having a whole set of plate armor could be traded for a lot, too.
I'm gonna be honest, I really prefer the original artwork. I know it look cartoonish but that's exactly what makes it great while still imposing.
The new one looks too much... "organic", I don't know how to say it but that makes it kind of ugly in my opinion.
I personally think the original was good enough. But if you really are going to rewrite it, could you make the background for Andromalius' magic a little bit more 'magical' than original? His explanation of magic to Twilight/Celestia was very sketchy at best and sounds too plain for magic with great battle power. I mean it did not sound 'magical' or 'grand' (not even fancy) for magic of that level. When I read chapters which he explained his magic to others, it sounds more like a grade-school physic class than magic talk.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll do just that.

Please look up 'HoMM 5 Nightmare' and compare both of them, because I think he wanted to copy the creature.
The new one looks more like the original creature.
The new one looks great, are you gonna redraw inanna? I was actually reading the original earlier so andromalius and inanna are the only two I've seen. A good question is how closely will the rewrite follow the original and it's sequel? And will reading the original spoil anything for the rewrite or is it more of a quality check rewrite?

I have the game, I know how the original look like. I'm just saying that sticking with the show's art style is better in my opinion.

I most likely will. As for reading... Well, the rewrite is going to be of much higher quality and should be much more enjoyable. Since you're at the beginning, I recommend you to wait.
