There was a blog post about it some time back...its basically the most trending new fics out there at the moment, and you get on it based on how many likes, favorites, and views the story gets in a certain amount of time after posting. I think Knighty has a formula for this, believe it or not.

I remember what it was like for me when I first started out here. I'd always struggle to get a work noticed, and any recognition from the big shots around this site was absolutely incredible. I don't believe myself to be anywhere near them, of course, and I do know I'm very fortunate for my standing. Now that I've written a lot and learned even more, I consider it my duty to help out the new guys as much as possible. Just want to thank you again for the awesome compliments and for sharing our story. And wow, featured listing already, this is certainly a most unexpected surprise! To have gotten this much feedback and such a response in such a short period of time (especially considering that I just made this account not even 24 hours ago) is really mind-blowing! I was actually quite perplexed as to how we could get this story any sort of recognition so we could get at least a small handful of readers able to give us some feedback on our current progress, and knew that the lengthy first chapter would be an immediate deal-breaker for most. We were contemplating cross-linking via FimChan, PonyChan, deviantArt...seeing if we could somehow coax EQD to accidentally feature it through some crazy-influential spell of whimsical Email sorcery that may or may not have been an elaborate ransom threat...I'm actually kind of ashamed to think that, over the last couple nights before submitting Starstruck, I never even thought that JUST the story on its own had the merits to be seen by the right guy.
That right guy being you, of course!
I just...honestly here, I just didn't think it was possible to get as much of a response as we did so early on! And we certainly have you to thank for getting it there!

You're quite welcome, good sir. It's a rare treat, finding high quality works like yours in the ponynet. Most are just comedy one-shots, or sleazy clopfics (not that there's anything wrong with that, I just prefer to read something other than a "spread'em and bed'em"). Then, every once and a while, a gem slinks out of the muck of garbage like a beaten stray. Every rolling stone had to get a starter kick, of course. I'd like to think I nudge these stones in the general direction of the steep hill to fame and glory, if you'll tolerate that pathetic metaphor.
As for EQD... I might be able to assist you in that endeavor. There is a pre-reader from there who drops by my page every once and a blue moon. He's looked over a fic of mine that I was considering for submission; maybe I can convince him to take a glance at yours. I'm positive that you have a strong contending for getting front page over there, as well.

Actually, that was the first instance I've ever really done something like that. It's quite humbling really, having that kind of influence. I don't think I'll be doing this again for a long time. Gotta prevent myself from getting a swelled head. Never get used to privilege, mate, or you'll start seeing it as something mundane.
