So, yeah! Carnivore went over just awesomely, didn’t it? Didn’t it?!
But, yeah, I can’t really blame everyone. After taking a step back and looking it over, I realized that the story really isn’t that good. It’s a bit disjointed, doesn’t mesh well, it’s pacing is shot and the characters are all, well . . . out of character. Especially Derpy and Rainbow. Neither really acts like themselves in it.
That said, after I realized that, I went in to analysis mode and started trying to figure out why it sucked so much. The answer was pretty simple, once I thought about it: I didn’t really enjoy writing it, very much. As I stated in the Author’s Note at the end of the story, in order to write something as dark and moody as that, I’ve got to tap into the depressive side of my personality, which I generally don’t like to do. It makes sense in this situation that I would be rather less than happy, whilst writing that story, then.
That obviously carried over into my writing, causing everything to sort of fall apart. However, I want everyone to know, whether they like it or not, that I haven’t given up on the overall concept that was behind the story, yet. In fact, I have a new idea I’m working on that was spawned by some brainstorming I was doing while writing Carnivore, that is more up my alley.
Basically, Grimdark is clearly not my genre, as it messes with my head and my emotions too much.
Dark Comedy, on the other hoof. . . .
So, yeah! I’m gonna start working on a multi-chapter “Sequel”, although more of a re-imagining, of the base concept that underlay Carnivore, but I’m going to give it more of a comedic twist. There will probably be satire, references, fourth wall breaks and puns aplenty, so keep your eyes open for that.
On a side note, though it will NOT be done in time for Halloween, I am still going to finish the sequel to Pinkie’s Day Off, as I have some ideas in mind that should make it interesting.
I’ve also still got a clopfic I’m working on, and don’t worry, as it will be much higher quality than Fluttertoes.
Annnnnd I’ve also got that Medieval/Fantasy, Anthro AU story I was working on, although that one will be taking a back burner in favour of the Carnivore spin-off, for now.
Oh, and, as of tomorrow, I will be changing my user name on the site to reflect my OC’s name, rather than my old Fursona’s name, that’s I’m using now. Anybody wanna guess what it might be?
