IN WHICH LOUD NOISES
Yesterday was a bittersweet day. First the sweet: Babymetal's newest music video.
Immediately after came the news that Yui Mizuno, who had been ill for a year, was leaving. More past the jump.
Fittingly, as the news of Yui's departure spread across the world, it was raining here. A cold unforgiving rain. That rain honestly sucked because I'm currently in the middle of my home being re-sided, and they can't work in the rain for several reasons.
It's interesting seeing my home without its cheap vinyl siding. The previous owners just slapped it on top of the original wood. So now my home really shows its age, especially because that siding was poorly sealed so the original windowsills have partly rotted away. They have to be replaced before the new siding can go on. With the peeling paint and rotted wood, it looks so old and white-trash at the moment.
I'm taking photos of my home during this process. One interesting thing is that, thanks to peeling paint, turns out I was actually wrong about the original colour. I'd thought it was white. Nope. White was just the last paint colour before the vinyl siding (original colour: Sand – it bleached over the decades). The original original colour was Moss Green – another house two doors down from me has this colour. Then there's a second colour in between those that I can only describe as Light Teal.
The siding I chose is "Oxford Blue", which is a lightish blue with a hint of grey. More importantly, it comes with insulation pre-attached. I'm hoping, like with the redone wiring, new HVAC, and extra insulation in the attic, that this will cut down on my electric bills in the winter (and to a lesser extent summer) in the long term. The only additional thing I think I could do, as I've already switched many of my lights to LED, is paint my roof white… or get a white roof when it's time to replace it. This is a common practice in parts of Southern Europe that don't use red tile.
I was feeling depressed even before the news about Yui, which while sad at least provides closure after ten months of questions. I've been having nightmares. I haven't felt like going to the gym or the park (which is undergoing construction, making it difficult to walk my usual circuit), though I did gym… Thursday night? Friday? It all runs together for me. I should go tonight, I may not.
And of course I've done very little writing. I apologize. Maybe I've set up blocks in my head that keep me from actually transmitting my thoughts into words. I have started on the final chapter of the SunsArity story, again without looking at what I wrote before, but it's only a tiny bit. While I'd hoped I could finish it before Halloween, that may not be possible. A doctor's appointment next week, my dad coming to visit for a pre-birthday dinner (cooked by his ex-wife my mother), plus overseeing the completion of the siding work. Yeah, my next week is busy.
Hey, at least I finished the crazy thing for Halloween. I'm NOT going to make a habit of this. And unlike the "Rarity Kills Sunset" story, this one won't fit into continuity at all. It's just a fun thing I did. Look forward to it!
