    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Thoughts on "Father Knows Beast" · 3:47am Oct 12th, 2018

At last, the answer to all our Spike questions!

Pffft, obvious twist is obvious, I think we all called that the guy wasn't Spike's real dad.

Now, to be honest, I don't really hate this episode all that much. Yeah, the story could have been better and Sludge might be the most despicable character ever seen in the show (seriously, he makes freakin' Garble look good), but I just can't muster up any anger towards the episode aside from the whole "wow what a manipulative douche" thoughts running through my head. I wonder if it's because I never really put much stock in finding out where Spike came from (I'm fine with just Celestia stating she or another pony found an abandoned dragon egg; any further than that would feel contrived with any conveniently alive parents who'd know exactly what their kid looked like or convenient dragon friend of parents somehow knowing who Spike is coming in to tell the tale... yeah, I'd get a little annoyed with a "too convenient" reveal). So, the disappointment is not that strong with me; I'm satisfied with Twilight being his family.

Either that, or I filled my hate quota for the season with Yakity-Sax.

But, hey, Smolder and Spike interactions for the win! Seriously, they have this adorable brother-sister-like relationship, it just makes me all giddy to see the support from Smolder and the gratitude from Spike, and the way they teamed up to get Sludge to expose himself... I love this friendship. I want more of it.

So... this episode just earns a shrug and an "It's okay, I guess" from me.

I've been tooling around with the idea that Sludge is actually Garble's dad.
