The End in Friend rambles! · 10:05pm Oct 2nd, 2018
Well, this was an episode that I was looking forward to. Rarity and Rainbow Dash spend so little time interacting that it's good to mix them up. And they really seem like two opposites, not even having the childhood friendship Rainbow had with Fluttershy, so this should prove to be interesting.
Rarity and Rainbow Dash have been shown to spend time together in the detective episode whose name escapes me, but one-on-one time is rare. Starlight's initial efforts were clever, but even their shared love of books falls through.
I saw the ending coming a mile away, but what the hell, it works.
I have friends that are very different from me, but we still have fun together, so this episode resonated well with me. Good episode.
Yeah, most people are too harsh on this episode. It is fun so it works.
Also, the detective episode you are thinking of is titled Rarity Investigates.
4947171 If it were harmless fun that would be fine, but the episode devotes a lot of its run time to having Rarity and Rainbow Dash argue and fight and it's just not very entertaining when we've already had tons of conflict episodes this season. Plus, the arguing is one sided since Rainbow Dash ends up looking good all the time. The third act is when the episode starts to get good and I really wish that had been the focus from the start.
When they started arguing over whether Daring Do or the mystery book was more realistic, it reminded me of when my friend and I argue over the Last Jedi.
While not the best episode, it was nice to get some more interactions between Rainbow Dash and Rarity. The very fact that they've had so little meaningful moments together was a big part of things, which I think was kind of clever. And while Twilight and Starlight tricking them into working together was pretty sneaky, at least it helped them appreciate each other again.
