Ok, guys so my newest story is coming along rather well but I need some advice. I plan on making the main six and by proxy, every other being in the Main Stream Equestria verse super powered to a certain extent. I have a list of what I think would be a good set of skills or elemental power's to imbue the main six with but I can always go for some help figuring this out.
Twilight Sparkle, Darkness/Magic.
Rarity Belle, Earth/Gem Stones.
Pinky Pie, Water/Cartoon Physics.
Applejack, Fire/Pyrokinesis? or something else.
Rainbow Dash, Light/Lightning.
Fluttershy, Wind/Blood.
Hmm, elements for each character. Each with an ability based off said element... Well, it's a concept, but could use a bit of fine-tuning.
so far, you have six elements; water, fire, earth, air, light and darkness. While those are a good start, they seem a little bland and simple. I've seen their use in avatar, nowhere boys, zelda. All the big games and shows all implement them great, but for a show as diverce as MLP, the elements also need to be.
the 'Final Fantasy' series has a much more diverse group of elements, including those you suggested:
Fire, Ice, Lightning. Wind, Water, Earth. Light, Darkness and poison. Non-elemental is moreso anti-element,if you want to push it to ten.
also,you could probably shuffle around the elements for the characters.
light/darkness fit celestia and luna brilliantly, given they also represent the sun and moon. You could also have Twilight represent both, given she's a magical prodigy.
poison could probably go to the likes of the changlings, given their appearance (pre-reformation)
earth should always fall to Applejack. It fits with her strength and her farming background. I get the link to rarity and her gemstones, but it fits applejack slightly better. If it comes to it, give them both earth.
lightning goes to dash, purely because of her speed and cutie mark.
wind should go to Fluttershy, I'll give you that one. Not usre how her powers work with blood though (possibly healing?), and if it does use blood, wouldn't water make sense?
Water linking to pinkies physics (or lack thereof) is smart, bnt maybe linking her to non-elemental would work better? Not sure, you're call about that.
Fire canonly go to spike, no questioning it. He has freaking magic fire breath. Simple as.
Ice... Is anyones guess. Perhaps representing a substitute earth? cold and stubborn.

True But I've since then made AJ a Geomancer/Druid. Decided to give fire to spike.
