Sorry, this came in a day late. I've been really busy the last few days from college to some injuries I received Wednesday. I wanted to get some work done but I fell behind when I literally fell backward of a stairway two days ago, I'm not seriously injured, but I did need an ice pack for my arm and ass afterword. Luckily I didn't hit the ground face first. Today I feel a little bit better, plus a story I have been wanting for a while finally got posted so some good news. But for now, I have more tidbits for you readers. This one is about one of the most holy places in the land, The Plaza of the Gods...

Found on the very outskirts of the Crystal Empire’s mighty forcefield this walkway is one of the most holy sites in the land. With a gold line walkway surrounded by the statues of alicorns both young and old and a mighty cathedral at the end that holds a far more holy artifact it no wonder that mortal ponies flock here to pray and worship.
Each one of the alicorn statues are kept incredibly clean and shine their white marble gleam over everything. The mortals pray to the statues, idolize the statues and worship the statues. Their love is so strong yet almost no alicorn would dare come near the statues, especailly with the mortals around. The reason is this walkway is not just a place of holiness, but a place of remembrance.
A mighty war that happened so long ago, so long that many mortal tribes had long forgotten the pain. However, the alicorns are immortal and shall never forget the day their oldest fought in a war that nearly ravaged the entire world. This war was called the Callavoss War and it ended with the death of many alicorns. These statues are the alicorns most remembered. The alicorns that fought the hardest and died the strongest.
The war would have taken all the alicorn if it hadn't been for the protection of a mighty being. Near the end of the war one the Ideals, one of the first beings in creation appeared to a lone alicorn mare and told her to build a tall tower and he would place something of great importance inside it. This tower would become the first holding spot of the Crystal Heart. The Crystal Heart's light would protect the remaining alicorns until the war was finally ended.
For his kindness, the Ideal's likeness was used for the final statue, a giant centipede statue that sits within the mighty cathedral. Many alicorns and even mortals see the statue as a sign of godliness. The giant centipede statue is considered to be one of the most holy artifacts in all the land. This is the Plaza of the Gods.

The ideals are omnimorphous so they can have whatever form they like. Examples the Ideal of Madness chose the form of a mighty vulture and the Ideal of Sanity chose the form of a thin goat. The form they choose usually depicts a lot of their characteristics. The Goat is constantly wandering the world hence his thinness, the vulture is constantly scavaging the world hence his large size. The thing now is to figure out what characteristics could be pull from using the form of a centipede.

These were just examples to give grasp to the answer of the Ideal that has the form of a centipede. Nor, Sanity or Madness are the centipede, they were just first examples that came to mind. Really their choices in form aren't even the strangest since Harmony chose the form of a tree and Chaos chose to take the form of words.
As to why Sanity is wandering is because he is searching for something, but what he is unsure of as of this point in the story. It funny that you ask about Sanity since the ideal will be playing a major role in Journey To Hearth's Warming and this will lead to him realizing what he was searching for.
Hint, Sanity shares a major connection with one of the main characters and a certain lavender alicorn
