Wings of Black Glass

The worst fanfic ever written is still better than the greatest story never told.

    Pony Wars

So that Pony Wars project that I’m posting the character backstories for: That’s a project trying to make a new setting for people to create stuff for. While I was initially brought in to help with some of the worldbuilding, I’ve since turned into the lead author for it. (right now the *only* author for it, but that’s another issue) Dratta Arcana is the project lead, and he wants people to

    Mask of Despair and EQD

A couple months ago, I submitted The Mask of Despair to EQD. Rejected, obviously. At the very least, they gave me some notes on it. More notes than all the other comments and messages combined. On that note: why did no one tell me it was such a mess? It’s got random capitalizations, missing words, and

    My first Shipfic

So yesterday I wrote my first Shipfic, and it’s doing alright. 60+ views, 8 upvotes, a dozen-or-so favorites. (Nothing I’ve done can come close to competing with The Alicorn Limit, though.) I had wanted to get it done for Hearts & Hooves day,

Some history about my writing · 6:03am Jul 29th, 2018

My first story up here on fimfiction is not my first story I have ever written. That honor goes to a story I called "The Scythe of Man" which was an original world, but to be honest it ended up as Gundam fanfiction. I wrote that in 2006. I've been writing on and off since then. (Thank you, NaNoWriMo) Actually, the first time I tried to ever really write something was in 1999 or 2000, when I tried to write a novel. I managed all of 6 handwritten pages that first time, and it predictably went exactly nowhere. (I wonder if I still have those?)

Because Princess Estrella made me curious, I'm going to add up how much I've written. (Don't bother going and looking for any of these, you won't find them anywhere)
"The Scythe of Man" - 86k words-ish. All I knew starting on it was that there were going to be giant robots fighting each other, a superlaser on the moon, and the bad guy would win.
"Sixth Paradise" - 53.5k words. Which was part alien invasion of earth, and part origin story for my favorite City of Heroes character I played. (robot/trap mastermind FTW!)
"Obsidian Heart" - 52k words. Although I never finished it :fluttershysad: It was going to be part of a trilogy about a fantasy world I put a ton of work into, but I got distracted with other things (like... computer games... It's a flaw I still fight)
"Archenemy" - 50k words (Noticing a theme yet? more NaNoWrimo) which was eco-terrorism, partialy intended to be a prequel to the Scythe of Man.
"Worlds Without End" - 50k+, I don't have it anymore, so I can't be certain how much I actually wrote for it. I had a fatal hard drive failure a couple of years ago, and lost Worlds Without End, Archenemy, a bunch of half-written thoughts and support files, and a few other projects I was... less invested in, as I've forgotten their names. Still, losing Worlds Without End stings, I really liked it. It was going to be the story for a game my friends and I were working on. (But then they all bailed on me, and I was woefully out of my depth in game development and the project collapsed. Yes, I'm still bitter about that. :flutterrage:)
"Mask of Despair and the Face of Hope" - 111k
"What do you think?" - 7k
"The Elements of Tyranny" - 46k+ (ongoing!)
I've also have a really ambitious novel/series which I've been calling "Stardrops" which I started in 2007, and have been 'working' on ever since. It's first draft was 106k words, but then I got stuck, so I went back and re-wrote part 1. The re-write was another 59k words. When I got stuck again (at essentially the same place, no less) I started on part 2, which was 80k by the time I was "done." While "Mask of Despair" is the single longest piece of fiction I've written (and did not intend that!) "Stardrops" is the one I've put the most effort into, in every sense of the word.

That puts me at... seven hundred thousand words, give or take a few thousand. Not included in that number are those stories I wrote which I have lost (which are at least another 60k+, probably a lot more), Support files, or research, or half-written ideas which never went anywhere. So lets just say 800,000 words of fiction over the last 12 years?

0.8 MILLION words. 80% of 1,000,000 words. Or more.

Should I be impressed or terrified? No, really, I'm not sure which I should be.

And yes, I realize exactly 1 person cares about how many words I've written. (Me, obviously)
