"And helping each other, brings to life the magic in all of us." -Lady The Magical Engine
18 years ago Today, a little blue engine onto the Big Screen all across America. July 26, 2000, Thomas and The Magic Railroad was theatrically released all across the nation.
The movie may not be the best, many of the cut lines, characters, and plot points making the film confusing at times. It may be too "Americanized" and it may have been a box office flop. But, this film is sure to hold a place in many a Thomas fan's heart, it may have even been the first movie you ever saw. No matter what you think of the film, we can all agree, Little Engines, can do big things...
Still got the VHS, and I still say it was a good movie.

I will admit it has issues, but I loveit too
It's a shame that the failure of this movie caused Britt Alcroft to walk away from Thomas and hand over the reigns to HiT.

Yes, it truely is, and it wasn't even her fault, HER movie was wonderful, but we never got to see her movie
I still have the tape. It's one of my best childhood memories.
4908081 Yes, a lot of executive meddling and poor reception from test audiences prompted a lot of changes. They even forced Britt to change the voices for some of the characters. And it also suffered from trying to be that planned Shining Time Station movie they'd been toying with.
Darn test audience cut out all the cool parts becuase they were to scary for kids. There is a petition for the directors cut floatin around somewhere

Exactly
4908110 I do wish that some of Britt's ideas had been kept, including the original voices for Thomas, Diesel 10, and James (he and Percy were originally going to be voiced by UK narrator Michael Angelis but test audiences thought he sounded too old for them. I agree with them on Percy, he always felt like one of Angelis' weaker performances, but I think he would've been a good fit for James).

Me too, I also would have LOVED to hear The Island Song in the movie, Thomas Anthem too
4908152 The Island Song would've been so fitting, especially since it kind of sounds like a tribute to the Rev. W Awardy as it came out not long before his passing.

Imagine it, the intro but no speech after Thomas' intro, just the song with more shots of the engines working
