While I like the look and chemestry of Apple Dash, I've always considered them the least likely to be a long term successful couple. Main reason: Competitiveness.
Competition between mates kills a relationship. And one thing that Applejack and Dash do all the time is compete. It wouldn't take long for it all to become a constant battle of oneupmanship.
Another reason: Work ethic. Applejack is a workaholic. Dash is a nap-aholic. Oh sure, Dash does work on her routines and flying ability, that has been demonstrated, but more time is shown of her goofing off and napping. The very things that would rankle a personality like Applejack to her wits end.
Final reason, Applejack is grounded and stable in a life she loves. Rainbow is in an occupation she loves that necessitates travel and time away from home. Farmers need a partner who is a stable presence . Performers need a partner who is either comfortable with frequent and prolonged absence, or is willing to adopt the same on-the-road lifestyle.
I love both characters, but they would never make it as a couple.

Woud like to see more of them together next season. Maybe the writers could put the competition aside and develop their bond a bit more.

It just feels like you aren't all caught up to speed with how the characters have developed in the last few seasons, is all. Made me feel like I was going back in time to when I joined the fandom around season 3. XP

Applejack and Dash competitiveness was still an issue in that recent episode where they took the students out on a field trip as instructors. So my main point doesn't appear to have changed.

And truthfully, I think the show should have ended or switched and followed a new group after season 5.
