My laptop's battery has completely died!
First my dog gets sick, significantly reducing the amount of time I get free to use for writing, but when I FINALLY finish the second chapter of my Sheogorath fic, I turn off my laptop with the intent to publish in the morning, and when I get up, IT DOESN'T BLOODY WORK!!!!!
I have taken it to a professional, who said that it's likely the battery, so I've ordered a replacement, but it won't be here for about a week at the earliest. And even then, there's a chance it's NOT the battery, so if it doesn't work with the new one, I may disappear for a VEEERRRRYYYYY long time.
Also, for the record, I'm a full-time carer for my grandmother, and as such I receive a government payment that barely makes ends meet, so anyone that suggest I just buy a new computer or laptop, I will have to hunt you down and suffocate you with a dirty sock.
Thank you all for your patience, and have a good day.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog and your laptop. I hope the battery works!

So do I
For some reason I worry regarding it being the battery. My reason is to ask first if it runs while plugged into the charger?
sucks sucks a lot

No.

And I’m sorry to say but that’s the worry. Most laptops run without a battery installed while plugged in to the charger.

I know.
But regardless, the guy at the computer shop said to try a new batter first, before exploring more expensive options.
If it's not the battery, best case scenario is that it's something that can be repaired or replaced.
Second best is that the data is safe and can be teansferred, provided I can find a cheap enough replacement that can take it all.

If it’s refusing to even power up it’s likely a power intake issue. If it’s starting to boot up then shuts down it might be an error in the hard drive. As long as the central part of the hard drive is intact data should be recoverable.

So if it's a power intake issue, then... what, it could range from a loose connection to it might need a replacement part?
Because it's just not getting power at all.

Yeah pretty much. Which means it might not be the battery at all.

Still, it never hurts to explore the option.
Either way, I'm coming out with a higer capacity battery than the standard one the laptop had.

If it turns out it’s something else, keep the first one as a backup

That's the plan.
