Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High part 2)

Alright, so picking up where we left off E!Spike approaches the Canterlot High version of Ditzy Doo to try and get her help. Yeah, he's got plans for how to loosen Sunset's hold over the school and make it clear that he's not just gonna fall in line for her, but there's still a ton about this world he doesn't know about (not the least of which being how to use the technology). Luckily for him,

    Looking for some advice/inspiration.

I'm trying to start a fanfic where the main character has amnesia and I want to avoid the cliche "wakes up going 'where am I who am I?'" approach.

    Thoughts?

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High)

So you're all probably wondering what E!Spike is up to while CH!Spike is having fun in Equestria.

Well it starts with him getting to know the local police and their station pretty well.

    Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Equestria)

After quite a few failed attempts to start this and a bit of thought I realized it will likely be a lot easier to write (and read) this summary if I divided up the two story lines (Equestria and Canterlot High) and then brought things back together when they actually intersect.

    Therefore, welcome to:

Am I the only one who feels like... · 3:01am Jun 5th, 2018

Spike getting his wings isn't nearly as divisive as Twilight getting hers was, but that there seem to be some very vocal people trying to make it sound like it is?

Seriously, take a tour around Derpibooru or Deviantart. I'm not going to name names, but I've seen one artist that's dedicated to removing Spike's wings permanently for the sake of his own head canon, another who's rabidly posting image macros proclaiming Spike is useless and shouldn't have gotten wings in the first place, and that seems to have triggered at least a few other people who seem to be trying to shut those first two up.

Now I haven't actually watched any episodes since Season Six to be honest, not even Molt Down despite it starring my favorite character. I've just been reading episode recaps online. Personally though I thought "Spike's getting wings? Cool, but now I've gotta compromise that with the homebrew D&D 5e stuff I was making.".

Seriously, I'm just trying to make sure it's not just me. Like, Spike has wings that's great. I'm a little upset that it happened so late that I'm not as into it as I could be, but world building (especially dragon-related stuff) is always good in my opinion even if it's a bit late in the game. It just feels like a there's a few extremely vocal ducks out there that really wanted this to explode into the second coming of the "Twilicorn Scandal" and even though it hasn't happened naturally (from what I can tell) they're acting like it did.

I wonder why it just occurred to me we've had more episodes of Twilight with wings than without... Spike getting wings didn't really phase me to hear about. Just actually tempted me to finally get around to picking over specific episodes of the show again. I haven't been watching much since the start of season five.

Yeah, I dunno. I'm glad he got wings and had an episode dedicated to him growing up, even if I didn't watch it and enjoy it directly. At the same time I feel a bit... unfulfilled, I guess? Maybe because I had a bunch of ideas for my own fics that kinda get kneecapped thanks to this whole revelation but at the same time it's not like I was actually writing any of them anyway...

I guess I'm just wishing I'd actually written more about my own ideas back before all this stuff came to light, really. Not that I couldn't still write some of it now, I guess and incorporate what we've learned but I've watched the show so little recently it's hard to get myself motivated to try, you know?

To me, Twilight getting her wings, and how she got them, seemed cheap. I figured it would happen because she was Celestia's prize pupil but I was expecting more, you know? With Spike getting his wings, it seems reasonable. It's part of him growing up. In short, with Twilight I was like "That's it?", but with Spike I was like "About damn time."

This is actually the first I've heard of anyone taking issue with Spike getting wings. I've heard more hubbub about how Spike learned to use said wings too quickly when not even Twilight was able to do as such, but very little issue about Spike getting wings himself. Most seem to think it's great...though overdue. So yes, I'd say whatever dissenters there might be are making the matter seem bigger than it is...and, from my viewpoint, to not much noteworthy success.

"Molt Down" was actually a pretty decent episode IMO, so I'd recommend taking the time to watch it at some point. :raritywink:

There's undoubtedly people who wouldn't like it. Although 'Molt Down' is a damned fine episode. And Spike getting his wings was pretty awesome. I too would recommend watching it.

Seems ridiculous doesn't it? But yeah I saw a pic by the artist in question of Spike showing off scars from a surgery to remove his wings. As you might guess the comments section on that page is a mixed bag.

Honestly I won't fault a guy for disliking what he dislikes or even making g-rated art so he can pretend he "fixed" the problem. He even has a few folks that agree with his stance. Fair enough, no change or episode gets one hundred percent approval. He just seems ridiculously up in arms about it, almost like he wants it to escalate.

That seems to be the "hip" thing to do these days, though--if even one iota of your favorite fandom does something you don't particularly like, you get all up in arms about it like its the end of the world, or so the behavior seems to suggest. Personally, I think it's stupid. I respect people disagreeing with things a fandom might do too, but at the same time they need to be reasonable and have a bit of perspective about it...especially if they're in a clear minority.

It was the only one of the leaked episodes that I couldn't resist watching right away. The actual release only got better.
