Why Exactly Did I Publish This? · 1:42pm May 23rd, 2018
This post is really only relevant to the linked story I just published, so spoilers ahead. Kind of. I'd still suggest reading the story first.
So, if you read Always Time for a Few More before coming here…
…Yyyyeah. I’m anticipating some downvotes. Or no votes. And some... interesting comments, if any
As I mentioned in the story’s description and A/N, this was what was going to be my entry to the EFNW 2018 Iron Author competition. After I started writing it, though, I realized it was taking a MUCH darker turn than I had originally intended, and I honestly wasn’t really thrilled about it. I had plenty of time left in the competition, but I couldn’t really get my head out of that dark mentality, and if you’ve seen the other stories in my list, you know dark is NOT my forte, aside from one exception (that somehow made it onto EqD…).
It’s possible this came about because I was just exhausted from the previous (first) day of the convention. Or maybe because I’m still dealing with some medical crap that’s got me on the edge of my seat. Or both. Either way, I ended up bailing out of the competition and getting on the autograph lines instead. Good thing I did, or I would have missed out on Fluttershy/Pinkie’s (Andrea Libman), Zecora/Matilda’s (Brenda Crichlow), and the Pie sisters’ (Ingrid Nilson) autographs [I snagged Ashleigh Ball’s (RD/AJ), Ryan Beil’s (Zephyr Breeze), and Richard Newman’s (Cranky Doodle along with a ton of other voices from elsewhere) the following day]. FYI, we all know Andrea and Ashleigh are, but Brenda, Ingrid, Ryan, and Richard are amazing people. I actually had dinner with all of them (minus Ashleigh) the first night of the con.
Sorry for the tangent. Anyway, back to the story.
If you look at the word count, you’ll see that it squeaked by 1000 words. It originally had barely made it over 800, and that was what I submitted to the competition (yeah, I still submitted it). I had to really push to get it up to 1000 and make it publishable here, and it still BARELY made it. Given what I’ve said about it thus far, if you’re wondering why the heck I went through the trouble to be able to publish this story at all… well, I figured since I started it for a contest, I may as well finish it. Somehow.
Since he was one of the judges, if he ended up reading it, I don’t think I want to know what Titanium Dragon thought about this. Even though we did have lunch together (he just keeps forgetting it’s me), I don’t dare submit this to him to review here, even though I did extend it a bit.
I’ve got better stuff, TD, I promise.
So, you know how a lot of authors say ‘no regrets’ at the end of some of their craziest fics?
…I have regrets. Many, MANY regrets. I maaaaaay need help… *twitch*
Then again, why not?
I got a chuckle out of it, that's for sure.
