Double Episode Thought Day · 8:37pm May 12th, 2018
Because I'm a week late for the last one and the new ep just aired.
Anyway, read along for my thoughts on "The Parent Map" and "Non-Compete Clause".
The Parent Map
Now, while this episode never really explicitly said anything about what led Starlight to start the Markless Cult, a little reading between the lines does give us a picture that is a little clearer. Between the punk/goth phase, the absence of Starlight's mom and Sunburst's dad, and the remaining parents' overbearing attitudes toward their kids and the past and future, we can piece together the backstory leading up to Our Town. Everyone may have different takes on it, but there's a basic idea of something that makes sense.
Also, hilariously, Stellar Flare is like a nicer and somewhat more reasonable version of Mozzarella. And Firelight's a reverse situation of Herb (Sugar Belle's father; especially going with the idea that Star's mother might be dead). And now I'm imagining now Stellar Flare and Firelight meeting the Our Town ponies' parents and how'd that go (depending on if the parents were still mad at Starlight for hurting their kids, even if Double Diamond, Party Favor, and Night Glider already forgave her).
As for the episode itself, I enjoyed it. I just wish they delved more into the preservation vs. development conflict and tied that better with the personal parent problems of our dynamic unicorn duo.
Also, this side character resembles Platinum Pen way too much and I have no idea how to react to that:
Non-Compete Cause
I don't usually like releasing these right after the episode, but screw it.
This episode was just underwhelming. With what happened in the episode, it should be exciting, but throughout it all, I was just bored. Applejack and Rainbow fighting over the whole "Teacher of the Month" thing got old quickly. The only things that made me laugh were Pinkie suggesting that a plant would be a better teacher for a "teamwork" lesson, and Ocellus transforming into an evil bite fish (I know they have a name, but I just don't care...). Though, that part where she turned into a seapony alongside Silverstream to save Yona was kind of neat.
Might have been how I had watched a new Miraculous episode and a few DuckTales episodes beforehand (all of which were pretty good and a lot of fun), thus I was on a high that was destined to be disappointed. But as it stands, this episode was just weak.
Well, that's all for now. Have a nice day.
