Do any MLP artists take payment in amusement park tickets? · 7:42pm Apr 14th, 2018

So Coke wrapped up the first of what could be many (or only one) Cedar Fair giveaways, and... well, lucky me, I guess: I wound up with a digital code good for two admissions. I did somewhat better than this last year, when the giveaways included a straight twenty cap codes=one ticket exchange: this gain was through a sweepstakes. And last year, having nowhere to put most of the tickets, I traded the majority on a swap site for Amazon credit.

But this year... only two.

There's a family whom I once just gave the tickets to, knowing they'd all have a grand day out together. But the kids are at that awkward age: too old to still think roller coasters are cool, too young to consider the implications of a park full of teens who just got off water flume rides. So that's a no. And also, insufficient tickets.

I thought about going myself. However, until I hear back on my still-not-fixed car (*sigh*), I have to plan every single activity around not having one -- and possibly having it wind up as junked. (It may be pistons. Pistons may mean losing the engine. Losing the engine means junking the car.) As it turns out, I can in fact reach my nearest Cedar Fair facility via a combination of rail and bus. This takes no less than three and a half hours each way (option for five), while costing a minimum of $65 and possibly going to the full Benjamin -- and beyond. So no.

I just don't feel like trading them this year -- not for Amazon credit. I always knew I was taking a loss against face value most of the time: unless I traded to someone who was going to personally use them, the majority of such swaps wind up being sold for more than the trade amount. I don't do those sales because the main avenue for such is eBay, which is happy to deal in physical tickets and hates digital codes: such listings have to be Buy It Now because the site will outright delete auctions: sell in five minutes or kiss your listing goodbye. And I'm okay with the other person making a profit, but... searching for a decent trade partner feels like too much trouble on my end, especially with only two tickets involved. Speculative no.

So... I thought I'd see if I can get a nibble on another kind of trade.

I have a digital code which can be redeemed for two basic one-day adult admission tickets to any Cedar Fair amusement park. (They don't have to be used on the same day.) Those parks are:

California's Great America: Santa Clara, California
Canada's Wonderland: Vaughan, Ontario
Carowinds: Charlotte, North Carolina
Cedar Point: Sandusky, Ohio
Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Gilroy Gardens: Gilroy, California
Kings Dominion: Doswell, Virginia
Kings Island: Mason, Ohio
Knott's Berry Farm: Buena Park, California
Michigan's Adventure: Muskegon, Michigan
Valleyfair: Shakopee, Minnesota
Worlds of Fun: Kansas City, Missouri

I would like some art for the 'verse.

I realize this is a longshot, and I'm not going to be offended if I don't see any possible takers. But... I currently have two useless-to-me tickets, and maybe there's an artist out there who lives within rough range of a park, likes roller coasters, and is willing to be paid in covered admission (but not parking). So I thought it wouldn't hurt too badly to put the offer out there.

I await the echoing silence with interest.

Quick question, can these codes be turned into Amazon credit like you stated earlier? If so, then I'd be interested in doing some art work for you. I don't really do rides since I'm too big for most rides (a.k.a. too fat) but I could always use them for getting new art supplies.

Closest one to me is going on 4 hours 😭

You'd need to use a trade site -- there are others, but I haven't really investigated them -- or try to sell them yourself. Just be warned that going the eBay route could get your account there banned: that why I don't risk it.

But for trade value? On that particular site, I've never been able to do better than $18 each, and $15 is more typical. (You're also trading under the table: said site actively discourages accepting or offering more than $5.00 back on anything.) And of course, whoever you trade with will probably just flip the tickets.

(For contrast: full-price single ticket value tends to be in the $50-$60 range -- but there's usually enough promotions running at any one time to bring it towards $30-$40. eBay sales might be for $22-$30 each.)

Bit of an off-topic question but would you consider yourself knowledgeable about amusement parks? Specifically the disney ones?

I'm going to have to pass. I couldn't even load the site properly to take a look and the last thing I need is to get stuck with tickets I can't use myself or trade.

Ooh, so just maybe some of those ideas we came up with might be done? Or did you come up with an idea of your own?

No, because at this point, it's safe to say no one's taking me up on this.

So it goes. I went into the offer expecting to fail, and was not disappointed.
