Too Clever for Canon

I’ve been thinking a bit about my recent chapter update to Never Too Clever and how it fits in with some of the established canon of Equestria’s past. I’d at first intended for it to be consistent with the Legends of Magic comic series, but after re-reading the issues I have I’ve realized that won’t be possible with what I’ve already written.

So, in the future, consider the fic to be an alternate universe (moreso than it already is.) It will still borrow elements from Legends of Magic, but in terms of its place in the wider timeline it will be considerably different from the comics.

C'est la vie. Canon should be a jumping-off point, not a straightjacket. (Though trying to reconcile the comics and show may put you into one. )

What was the source of the inconsistency? My first thought would be Canterlot -- I think the comics had it being built from the ground up as a residence for the sisters?

Still, I suppose that's how it goes. When you're working with a multi-media )and for that matter continuously evolving) franchise like MLP, keeping to every bit of the official canon may not always be worth the trouble, especially when parts of that canon have tended to get retconned and overwritten by other parts later on. At least with an AU you get narrative wiggle room to change things around if you need.
