Hello, It's Been Awhile · 3:59am Jan 28th, 2018
I am a little surprised I'm here actually. Time has sure treated me differently these last couple years...but I suppose what is more important to y'all is an update.
As for Starswirl's Wish, I'm still interested in writing it, but I'd have to do some major reworking to deal with my short and frankly dull chapters. I thankfully have no intentions of including our canonical Starswirl as he pretty much shoots the entire plot in the ass.
In general - I don't know what I want to do here anymore.
To go more in depth, here's the gist of the last six years for me.
In 2012, I was introduced to this wonderful fandom via a combination of sources ranging from my dad, the Weird Al 'Pony Polka' parodies on YouTube, and to a wonderful community of gamers on Team Fortress 2 that have since become lifelong friends. Not long after, my dad joked with me about the large following of fanfictions for the show since he is a regular on the titular site, FanFiction. This was the first time I officially used the site myself, both to read and write. I had already written things in the past and immediately found stuff I loved in the form of the crossover fic Ponies 1/2 as well as my own new writing, A Noise in the Closet.
As some of you might know, I abhor A Noise in the Closet. I was only 13 years old when the majority of it was written and by the time that I '''finished''' the story three years later, I had let my distaste consume the story and had already spawned the idea to completely redo the fic. More on that later.
I also managed to learn about this lovely site that year (as one could tell by looking at my profile), but didn't post anything here until 2014 when I posted the story Obsolescence, as I was too focused on my original title. 2014, for reference, was my freshman year of high school. I only just turned nineteen at the time of writing this actually. 2015 was my sort of Renaissance when it came to ideas. I had released the two Crystal Maiden stories which, while short and not the greatest, I am fairly proud of (mostly out of praise from the creator of the characters). Additionally was the creation of my two stories, A Show Within a Show and Phobos (putting in the latin spelling rather than greek because I'm lazy) which, although they were cancelled, introduced me to my true passion when it came to writing - making characters. Phobos' backstory (which was never fully fleshed out in the story) was the coolest thing I had written by that point in my hobby. Even less fleshed out was the characters I created for Show Within a Show, particularly characters aside from the main cast such as Cash Back.
Moving on, was the beginning of my notorious sloth - 2015 forward. The year saw the conclusion of A Noise in the Closet, albeit a disappointing one, but one much better than following the horrid promises I had made. Immediately after, I began work on Starswirl's Wish. I started creating the characters I wanted for the tale, knowing already what I wanted the story to be about and what direction I wanted it to go. In fact, I want the story to continue on in virtually the same pattern, but I would like to redo the introduction and extend chapter length. Kicking off 2016, I launched my new story and started working on it frivolously at both home and school. Sadly, I let myself fall into some bad mindsets and habits.
Following my sign-up for college I just randomly stopped enjoying my cartoon horses. I don't remember why, likely because I had no way to keep up with the show (Netflix doesn't update until season ends, EqD ports get taken down pretty fast, limited cable package). I don't think I lost complete interest in the show as I was still absent-mindedly working on Starswirl's Wish but I wasn't happy to look at any of the original source stuff from the show, movies, or comics.
Once I got to college (August 2017), I was of a pretty hefty mindset to actually erase my involvement with the show so as to start fresh. Sadly, this also resulted in me ignoring my DeviantArt follows, not signing into FimFiction for over six months, and completely changing everything about myself almost.
Thankfully due to my courses at the university and my own desire to continue writing, I stuck to it following a different franchise. From September 2017 forward, I had been working on two different variations of a dramatized Rimworld gameplay fic for FanFiction. Regardless of this, I think I snapped to my senses (due to some unfortunate circumstances) about some time in the last week. I noticed the show updated to Season 7 on Netflix and decided to catch up on everything I had missed. Additionally, I watched the fourth Equestria Girls movie that I had almost failed to even acknowledge as existing.
So, here I am, a year and a half after I have updated any story on this site. The question still stands, what are my plans?
To be honest, I don't know.
I'm still under a lot of stress from various sources, so I wouldn't expect me to suddenly just pick up my slack, but I do hope to get there soon, if my mental state allows for it. In the mean time, here's to hoping that this can give you guys some minor closure.
Well, take your time, man. I know what it's like to not update anything in years, a lot of others know too. At the very least, you're not alone.
