IN WHICH I AM SLIGHTLY STUCK
You ever have that feeling where you're halfway through a story when you realize it's crap and you have no choice but to scrap the whole thing and start over with a better idea? Well, that's where I'm at right now on the Mayor Mare story I have to finish by Saturday. Follow me past the jump for more tidbits.
I never liked Seinfeld. I love absurdist humour, but that particular show never appealed to me. You can probably tell by my NOT-Sunset stories that I go for farce and zany insanity. I'm a huge fan of Monty Python and their friend the late great Douglas Adams. In other words, I have no qualms about stopping a comedy story in the middle of the action because things get too silly.
The 2018 Mayor Mare story, titled Non-Adventure in the Crystal Empire, was continuing apace, with the principal characters all having a nice conversation about how much everyone back home sucks, when I realized I was SEVERELY breaking "Show, Don't Tell". The back and forth may have been good for character building, but made for awful plot. [i}Evictus stories often have more action, and that's really saying something since his "writing" was the inspiration for Comma Comma. So, while caffeinated, I discovered a new way to write the story that will give it more story and a satisfying ending, and wrote down a rough outline. There's no "hope" about it; I must finish by Saturday. My Mayor Mare stories are the only ones with a hard deadline, albeit self-imposed.
But hey, I'm going to explore the character of the Mayor's secretary, whom I've really come to like. Also references to my past stories just because.
Look forward to it, and wish me luck.
Peace out!
