MLP Marathon Bonanza - Top 5 Favorite Episodes! (Seasons 5-7)

Welp, it’s finally done. I’ve caught up on every episode of MLP and it was a thoroughly enjoyable ride. It’s been an experience watching all these episodes in such a short period of time, but one that I feel better for having done. It felt good to get back into the show after so long away, and now that it’s done I’m going to give a list of my 5 favorite episodes from the last three seasons. I’ll

    MLP Marathon Bonanza S7 E22-24

With only this post and one more until season 7 is complete, I thought I’d go ahead and mention that I’ve decided to make a sort of ‘bonus’ blog at the end about my Top 5 Favorite Episodes from the past three seasons. Originally I was thinking about just tacking it on at the end of the season 7 finale blog, but as I’ve started to draft some of entries I realized it’ll be a bit too long for that,

P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)

Now, I can’t remember who or why, but someone told me that P.P.O.V. stands out in this season, and I can’t remember if it’s for a good or bad reason, so I’m just wasting your time telling you this. The point is, if it was because it was a bad episode, then I mostly disagree. If it was because it’s a good episode, then I mostly agree. What I’m saying is, this episode is pretty okay, all things considered, if you don’t consider the bad parts.Excellent, now that we got that pointless paragraph out of the way, let’s actually talk about the episode.

I’d read a fic starring Captain Applehab.

I actually quite liked this episode. In a similar vein to Saddle Row Review (though not nearly as good), seeing flashbacks allows for some nice comedic set ups and punchlines. I thought it was funny that in each version of the story one of the ponies is really exaggerated, but Rarity and Applejack’s were the best. I loved that in Rarity’s version Applejack is a dumbass who just says, “HAR HAR HAR” all the time. That’s so dumb it’s funny, and the same goes for Pinkie’s version where Rarity just says “Darling” all the time. Actually I would’ve liked it even more if those parts had been even more exaggerated. I feel like that’s a pretty decent parody of the characters. Also, I like the running gag of Twilight constantly giving Spike notes to take. That’s cute and funny.

So, why the hell did they agree to the boat trip in the first place again?

While I did enjoy this episode for its humor, I do think the ending was really disappointing and weird, but not in a good way. Having the cause of the destruction of the ship be a random sea monster that we, the audience, had no way of knowing about, is kinda stupid and pointless. It’s random for the sake of being random, and as a result it makes the whole moral of the story somewhat muddled. Like… what was the point? People see things differently and you should try to understand that? But, also that sea monsters will destroy your ship if you give them cucumbers. Well, whatever, it’s not a great episode but Rarity wears lots of great outfits. Fashion/10.

Rarity is too middle class for me. (That’s a British thing, right? Saying someone’s middle class?)

Where the Apple Lies

Forgot to mention it in the last review, but I thought it was odd that during Applejack’s retelling of the events she basically lies by exaggerating the story. Um, I thought she wasn’t supposed to lie, like Abraham Washington?

It’s kinda weird in retrospect that it took six fucking seasons to get to an episode about not lying. That’s Applejack’s thing, isn’t it? Like, what the hell. This seems like a season 1 idea that somehow took six seasons to get to. Anyway, this episode is a bit of a weird one. First off, it shows AJ and Big Mac as young ponies, before Apple Bloom is born… but their parents aren’t around? Where the fuck did Apple Bloom come from? Is she adopted? Well, all that aside, I guess this is a pretty fine episode. I liked Big Mac a lot. Him not only talking, but talking a lot and being sassy is pretty great. I’ve always liked his VA.

I apologize to Filthy Rich for calling him a huge dick. He’s actually a miniscule vagina.

I think this is actually a really relatable episode because every kid (I assume) tells some small lie that spirals out of control at some point in their life and then they have to deal with the repercussions. There’s a really good moral in here (about not being a fucking liar) and it’s just a solid AJ episode. I kinda hope there’s some more of these teenage pony episodes. It’s cute. Also, I like how violent it almost gets it at the end when Granny Smith grabs a fucking bonesaw. That’s pretty metal, Granny. Anyway, there’s some cute background ponies in this episode, like the receptionist, and also Spoiled Milk is pretty cute as well (don’t hate me).

Top Bolt

Fuck yeah, another Wonderbolts episode. I know some people hate them, but whatever. I like the Wonderbolts a lot. They appeal to me in a viscerally badass kinda way. I don’t know why ponies would need flight jackets, but I love them. Also, Spitefire’s aviator glasses are basically always cool.

Anyway, this is a real solid episode (in the first draft I wrote “this is a real solid pony” so my mind is fucked by ponies again… great). The friendship between Sky and Vapor is not only really believable, but it’s really cute and the conflict feels real. Early on I suspected that Sky was just going to get drummed out of the Wonderbolts and be revealed to be a big loser, but I was happy and surprised that he and Vapor just used good ol’ fashioned friendship to cheer each other on. In terms of complexity of the story, this episode isn’t really high on the list, but it earns a lot of credit in my book for earnestness.

“Hey, you wanna bone?”

One of the things I liked about this episode is that it’s a Wonderbolt episode featuring Dash that isn’t about Dash trying to find her place in the Wonderbolts. Like I said way back in one my previous reviews about Rarity being successful, I think it’s great that we finally get to see Rainbow Dash doing her job and being good at it. Seeing Rainbow Dash grow as a character and becoming the teacher in this episode I think shows how much she’s matured since season one. Rainbow Dash has always been one of my favorite characters, in spite of the memes, and Top Bolt does a pretty good job of showing off her good character traits. Plus, it’s always fun to see more of pegasus cities. They’re really cool and not very often explored. I wanna see more of Cloudsdale.

A quick Google search leads me to believe that Angel Wings is/was fairly popular, and I can see why. She’s adorable. Also, for some reason, while trying to recall her name writing this review I thought it was “Angel Heart” and it strikes me that that’s also a good pony name. I bet Angel Heart would be super cute too.

I adored Top Bolt, and it's probably my third favorite episode in the season with Saddle Row Review and No Second Prances edging it out. As you mentioned, Sky Stinger and Vapor Trail's conflict was handled brilliantly, and the problem was made in such a way to where Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash both had important roles to play throughout the episode. Vapor Trail being absolutely adorable helps as well.

As for the other episodes, I wasn't too keen on P.P.O.V., but I can see why some may like the episode and its more comedic moments. As for Where the Apple Lies, it was an enjoyable way of explaining where Applejack's honesty originates, and how her small lie escalated in severity until it all culminated in the episode's climax was humorous.

Top Bolt was fantastic.

I barely remember the other two. I was wondering if I had somehow missed Where the Apple Lies entirely until I got to the part about the bonesaw and it clicked.

I was going to... but Angel Wings took that place. Great faces in this episode though.

I don't know if your searches pulled it up, but Angel Wings was voiced by Alexis Heule. This role was given to her as her wish by the Make-a-Wish Foundation; at the time, only one other VA had come out of that: Sylvain LeVasseur Portelance, the voice of Stellar Eclipse (the pony in the wheel contraption in Trade Ya!). I'm looking forward to hearing her now that I've been able to pre-order the S6 DVDs.

Nah, Spoiled was cute. Then.

That's really sweet and it warms my heart to heart that. Listening to the voice, I thought it seemed like some kind of cameo, but I didn't know it was Make-a-Wish. That's so nice and just lovely to hear. I like Angel Wings even more now.

I have to say, I did like P.P.O.V. mostly for sea-mad piratey Applejack. That was fun and incredibly silly.

Spoiled Milk is pretty cute as well (don’t hate me).

You can't see it, but I'm shaking my head in disappointment.

I don’t know why ponies would need flight jackets, but I love them.

The slick bodies and the tight fit,.. What's not to love? :trollestia:

I apologize to Filthy Rich for calling him a huge dick. He’s actually a miniscule vagina.

Either one's a compliment! Vaginas are powerful. ...Or so I've heard.
