IN WHICH I ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING, YAY
So, after Thanksgiving Dinner, which in my family's traditional fashion was held in the early afternoon (I say family, but it was just my mother and me), I got home and promptly passed out for seven hours. Once awake, I decided to try and do some writing. That's what I want to talk about after the jump, if you'll be so kind as to follow...
Thirty minutes ago, after working for I don't know how long, I finally reached the end of Antonovka, one of my biggest "Albatross" projects -- for those who don't understand that reference, please read the long-ass poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". This story has been nearly two years in the making, even though most of that time was spent working on the Recovery Arc and Burritoverse stories for which I have become more known.
I wish I could say I feel more of a sense of accomplishment. I do. But, it's not quite over yet. I still want to go back and edit this monster – over 29,000 words – to fix some continuity errors (bound to crop up when you write 90% of the story nearly two years after the first chapter) and other things that may be not up to my standards. Hell, I'm not sure the final chapter is up to my standards, but I don't know how I can make it any better. Parts of it feel like the first chapter of the Book of Matthew with all those useless "begats". I'd still like my readers to read my story though, as I've tried to keep that bit to a minimum.
I think what I feel right now is a sense of relief that I was finally able to finish a long story, even though there are still kinks to be worked out. And of course uploading it to the Cloud once I feel like getting my fat ass to the library. I doubt anyone will be crazy enough to want to preread this one given its length, so it's all on me. And that's fine.
As I've said about this story before, it explains nearly everything that seems weird or out of place in "Election" and "Mayor's Break Time", up to a point.
I guess now it's on to that Sunset story I promised awhile back. But first, back to sleep, I think. Fuck Black Friday; I ain't gonna buy shit. I never do on this day.
Peace out!
