TCB Reconstruction Collab anyone? · 6:38pm Oct 15th, 2012
I've recently come up with a general framework for a The Conversion Bureau story, with the goal of reconstructing the genre rather than deconstructing it. If anyone is possibly interested in collabing or helping with such a story, please say so here.
Here's most of the framework.
The starting point and biggest difference is that the Equestria that appears on Earth is that of Canon Equestria, which I believe would view us overall with suspicion but Celestia would be open to trying to befriend the humans of earth. In this story, ponification comes about after a pony doctor decides to try an experiment as he works along side some humans to try and find a cure for something we haven't nailed down yet (like aids or cancer). He transforms one of the paitents into a pony, and discovers that after the transformation they are perfectly healthy. Eventually, some nations begin to allow "Conversion Centers" set up, but unlike in other stories, they are monitored by the humans, specifically by said nations departments of health and the World Health Organization. Human and pony specialists screen those seeking conversion, wishing to use the serum on those who truly need it rather than those who think it may provide some escape from their current lives.
Another aspect I wanted to present in this story was that there is no barrier...initially at least, and that humans and human technology is free to come and go like in any other country, though Celestia does try to ensure there aren't too many humans present in equestria at any one time.
There would be an HLF and PER (is that the right acronym?) in this story, with both factions being largely made up of conspiracy nuts, racists and misanthropes and cultist types respectively, and with most human nations and Equestria denouncing both sides equally.
Another thought I had was that Luna could be more adept at interacting with humans than Celestia would be, due to her having more fresh memories of a time when ponies weren't so harmonious, and there were still plenty of divisions within and without equestria.
And of course, the addressing of Celestia and Luna being "goddesses" (which turns out to be half-true, although now that they're on Earth they can no longer move the sun and moon, though they retain connections to them)
Basically, it'd be a TCB with the good version of Equestria present, with things going on from that point as realistically as possible
This conceptual summary already makes so much more sense than that of the original CB or any of it's bastard children.

When I saw the topic of this I was like "Oh god not another one". Then I read it. I approve, DO IT. Please!
The concept reminds me a bit of Project Sunflower, and that's a GOOD Thing.

While I may not like some of the TCB stories out there (hint: all the misanthropic ones+some, some I stress of the world at war ones) the premise of TCB is a very interesting one, and so many things could actually be done with it if one tries.
Like one thought I had, what happens when a human gets touched by Poison Joke? The next LSD of the millenium? Does it turn a human into a brutal pscyhopath? Or would it be so poisonous to us that it renders a human dead within seconds?
And imagine the dialogue between say a zoo in europe that wants to acquire a manticore for a new "mythical creatures" exhibit, and an Equestrian version of PETA fighting such a move.
There really is so much that could be done with the idea, it in a way upsets me that we've really only got two sides of it.
I'll see about getting to work on this tonight thru thursday morning, I'm off the next three nights (tonight included) Which actually reminds me of something else I need to do...
