This Year's Charity. · 7:53pm Sep 2nd, 2017
Well, with the advent of September, it's time for a new charity project.
The charity is the Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation: the site is fairly generous with information, and they have a Facebook page you can check out if you want to see what they do.
The story will be a carnival/games theme overall, but you can ask for anything you want and I'll make it happen. This will be more of a collection of different stories than anything with an overarching plot this time, so everyone can get a little more of what they want. The more you donate, the longer I'll make your chapter, starting with a snippet of roughly a page or two at 5 dollars and going up from there. I'll take any character and most ideas, but I'd like to avoid too much mature content.
I will also be happy to discuss doing a more personalized commission for you if you make a larger donation.
I will need proof that you donated: please take a screenshot of your donation or receipt information and send it to me either through private message, or email to mjmcc (at) hotmail (dot) ca. Yes, .ca, not .com.
You can donate now and provide the idea of what you'd like to see, but next week I'll be putting up a starter chapter to give everyone an idea of the scenarios and settings possible. But by all means, if you have an idea and a preference, please let me know.
And to answer the likely question some of you have, why horses, it's simple.
There are a lot of important causes and a lot of people doing good things for these causes already. That's why I looked up a local charity that does good things for something I'm passionate about, and I am passionate about horses.
I spend all the time I can with horses. I work with a horse named Jaeger, who has anxiety issues, but he and I get along fantastically because, well, so do I. So I understand him and he understands me. I also spend a lot of time with a horse named Quattro, who was severely abused and is terrified of human contact. But slowly, we've worked up to the point where I can touch him, just for a few moments, and he's now comfortable with coming up within a few feet of me to greet me.
Working with these weird horses helps me understand how a lot of horses get looked over, because they're "difficult" and because people don't understand how horses develop personality and tics, just like we do. Finding a place that cares for these horses and works to rehome them in spite of their circumstances is more difficult than you think: when most horses are unwanted, they're simply abandoned or sent to feed lots, where they get passed around or sent to slaughter.
So I would like to help. And while there's lots of help right now pouring in from all sorts of people and places and I'm happy to give to those, too, my big thing is horses. Since there's a place just a few hours away and I know there's a lot of neglected and horses in need of homes here in Wisconsin, it seems like a good place to start.
Everyone has their thing. Find that thing, grasp into it, take it as far as you can.
So let's see where we can take this, and what we can accomplish. And thanks to everyone for reading, and any interest you have in this little project of mine.
Seems interesting, though I'm wondering something.
Is this carnival normal (as in, no weird eldritch stuff), or more like literally anything can happen? I have some ideas, but I'm not quite clear on if the carnival itself is an actual normal thing, rather then the mindboggling settings of your previous charity stories.
Eh... Perhaps that's not quite clear. I guess... more like, how freaky can it get?

I've never gone to a "normal" carnival that hasn't been at least a little freaky.
And seeing as this is me, well.
We can get pretty damn freaky in here.
You already know my ideas.
