Joker here. Thought I'd do a bit more of a comprehensive explanation of Scootaloo as The Black Lantern, and why she is the way she is.
You see, after doing some research, I discovered that there was in fact one wielder of the Black Power Ring who was able to maintain control of themselves while using its power. He's called Superboy-Prime. Apparently, when he got his hands on a Black Power Ring, he lashed out at his fellow Black Lanterns, somehow able to use the powers of the other Lantern Corps, almost like how a White Lantern can harness the power of the full emotional spectrum. My research into how this circumstance came about has proven inconclusive. One way or the other, I knew that if I was going to make Scootaloo the Black Lantern I wanted her to be, I knew I was going to have to use some creative licence, and Superboy-Prime and the Pegasus Device provided me at least a pliable explanation for how she works.
Like Superboy-Prime, Scootaloo can call upon the powers of the other Lantern Corps (although, her constructs and Rage Plasma are black, as would be expected). Most commonly, she'll use the Sinestro Corps ability to instill fear to get her victims frightened enough that she can extract their Spectra to power her own ability to feel emotions as well as her Power Ring. Also, and while this bit won't actually come into play until the sequel if I ever get to it, she can use a version of this unique power to siphon off the energies of another Lantern Corpsman, save for white for obvious reasons, to fuel herself. Also, while she is most certainly in control of both herself and the ring, which acts as a sort of JARVIS or built-in Alfred/Oracle, the ring does alter Scootaloo's personality somewhat, making her seem somewhat darker than she was pre-Rainbow Factory, and making it seem as though something is off about her, which sets Rumble, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Featherweight, and Button Mash on the path to learning the truth about what really happened to Scootaloo and what she's become. And, of course, they still love her just the same, even Rumble, who thinks it's kinda kinky to be dating a super-powered zombie, and that he could get used to it. Also, I'm pretty sure Rumble will become a Black Lantern similar to how Scootaloo operates, and thus begin to create an off-shoot version of the Black Lantern Corps, kinda like the Alpha Lantern Corps or the Corpse are for the Green Lantern Corps. They'll probably called the Dark Lantern Corps, and their Oath may sound like something similar to this, although I may change the first line somewhat:
From the void my soul shall once more rise,
To answer the universe's unavenged cries,
I'll gain my strength from your demise,
Should you dare cross me, you all will die!
So, as you can see, I've got big plans for this series. Hopefully, I'll be able to follow through with them. Also, any suggestions for an alternate first line?
